CybrSlydr Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Looking into my first lipless crank and I'm considering either the Strike King Red Eye Shad Tungsten 2 or the Rapala Rippin Shad. If you've seen my fishing reports, you'll see we've mostly fished in clear ponds/lakes. Which ones do you like and/or have worked well for you? Quote
flyingmonkie Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 I thought it was a rule that a chrome Rat-L-Trap was everybody's first lipless crank?! 4 Quote

Where I come from, if you say "lipless crankbait", you get blank stares and head scratching. "Oh, you mean a Rat-L-Trap?" Seriously though... can't go wrong with either. My votes for the RES. 1 Quote
j bab Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 They're right, you gotta get a bill lewis first From there, I'd try both the strike king and the rapala, matter of fact I just ordered 4 rapala lipless cranks today 1 arashi, 1 rattlin rapala, 2 rippin raps 1 Quote
Ktho Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 I've been doing really well with the Redeye shad lately so I'd definitely recommend it! 1 Quote

CybrSlydr Posted August 28, 2016 Author Posted August 28, 2016 Man, I assume that's from all the debris and rocks you've banged them against underwater? Quote

When fishing a lipless bait in, around & off hard structure or cover, the nose of the bait is routinely the area that take the brunt of the damage. The front end of the bait pictured, the nose, is for the most part, intact. This Red Eye shad had been of the receiving end of many LM & SM bass strikes, as well as more than it's share of small to medium sized Pike & Walleye action; the later do both possess a fairly formidable set of choppers. jr231 Posted August 28, 2016 Posted August 28, 2016 Guess I'll be the black sheep . Rippin' rap ! 2 Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted August 28, 2016 Super User Posted August 28, 2016 For me both caught fish, just that the RES caught a lot more. Both are good, but have more confidence in the RES right now, subject to change at any time. As for the original trap, I don't believe I have ever caught a fish on one. 1 Quote
Hattrick7 Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 blue/chrome or sexy shad (i think that's the right color) knockers. 1 Quote

Im with you as well much prefer the RR over RES. just too many RES Ive bought that dont run true and cant tune to run true. All my Raps run true at any speed. The finish on the rippin lasts much longer. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 10, 2016 Global Moderator Posted September 10, 2016 Interested to try the new Arashi rattlebait. I got one a few weeks ago and messed with it after loading the boat today. It has a small fin at the back that seems to allow for a slow retrieve, despite being 5/8oz. Also of note, I must have ripped it off the bottom 50 times and let it settle back, it landed on it's belly and remained upright every single time. Not a fan of the Arashi lineup, but this one might be a winner. Quote
CybrSlydr Posted September 10, 2016 Author Posted September 10, 2016 Well, lost my Rattle Trap yesterday. Got it wedged under something at Veto lake and couldn't get it back. Kinda ticked - never caught anything with it and only got to take it fishing 3 times. Quote

My man, I ceased many years ago counting the baits I have lost in a first cast let alone 3 times. 3 Quote
