Will heat degrade line. Not sunlight just heat.

Brand new just opened spool of 25#cxx. Been stored in my boat for maybe 3 -4 months. In the garage (when not on the lake).  Spooled up with fresh line  first outing. Caught one. Missed another. Very next cast broke off when I swung on what hopefully was a rock and not a fish. But it shouldnt have broke.keep in mind im very picky about my knots. Im sure the knot was good. I have it marked. I'll be back better equipped to retrieve my bait. I've been swimming 3 times after lost swimbaits this year. The tricky part is I lost this one inside a buoyed off section at the dam. Bait is maybe 15 feet inside the cable in maybe 5 feet of water on the slope of a rock jedy.

I would be interested in this too, I've had rods sit in my car for probably a total of about a month this summer and the inside has no doubt gone above 100 on certain days. 

 

As far as CXX. I thought about 25 when I spooled my first swimbait rod earlier this year, but everyone was saying how strong it was so I went with 20. Long story short next time I buy it I'm getting 15. I snagged a savage gear swimbait from shore on a long cast and had to break off. I had to winch the drag all the way down, and pull harder than I was comfortable with to get the line to break. I'm surprised you were able to break 25 on a hookset unless the line was damaged.

Yeah I'm thinking the same think. I've fished 20 cxx for the last year with no prob. On 5 and 6 ounce baits. I stepped up just for the extra insurance funny thing is that same bait 2 days later I casted it off. Wasn't committed to the cast didn't push the button down and POP. Luckily it landed in chest deep water. Tossed a marker right on it. And after 20 mins fouND it dragging the net. So respooled with the 25 cxx that I had on stand by

This in no way the scientifically correct way to check, but I would put a scale on the line.  Pull till it breaks while watching the scale. That'll give you some idea if the line is weak. 

I can't imagine excessive heat is good for line but I don't know how much is too much.

You could maybe shoot the line manufacturer an email or call them. They should be able to give you some guidelines. They know what it's made of and how it would react to heat, fuel vapor, etc.

+2 on this^^^ anytime I'm unsure of something I just call up the manufacture and ask them.

braided lines are fine in the heat. I do wonder about mono/co-poly or fluoro though. I would assume it doesn't affect the line just because people fish when its 90+ degrees out in direct sunlight but I could be wrong.

I have no data, but from what you describe, I would not think the line would have degraded.  If all your tiptops are still in the original orientation, and other outfits are OK, (if not it might indicate you're really getting hot in the boat)  then after measuring the line strength as suggested above, carefully check your guides for a cracked ring, especially the tiptop,  Use a q-tip to feel for snags.  Cracks can be hard to see, but can cut line.

25lb CXX is insanely strong. No regular hookset by a mortal could break it. 

Something isn't right and it's cheap enough that I would just replace it.

Nylon, the material monofilament like CXX is made of has a temperature limit around 105 degrees F before it starts to degrade, several thermocycles of 105+ will degrade it's strength. Mono line should be stored in a cool dark place.
