TetraFish'n Posted August 27, 2016 Posted August 27, 2016 I purchased two Helix 9 units along with a Zero Line SD card for each. I can't seem to find any info on how much data one card will hold when I start recording with Auto Chart Live. I see that there is 16GB of free space to maintain my custom maps, but what does that translate to in actual recordings? Also, if I reach the maximum allowed storage, will the card be unable to record new data, or will the oldest recordings disappear as the new charting is stored? Thanks Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted August 27, 2016 Super User Posted August 27, 2016 Just today I started playing with the Autochart Live function with the Zero-Lines card in my Helix 10. I spent about 30 minutes mapping and the resulting files were only something like 50 or 60 kb in size. Using that file size as a baseline, it looks like I could constantly map for about 15 years until I filled that 16 gig of free space. I'm not sure if you can actually calculate the amount of recording time in this type of linear fashion but from all accounts that I've read, a Zero-Lines card will record for a LONG time before filling up. Next time on the lake, I plan to just turn Autochart Live on when I start fishing and let it run non-stop for about 5 hours and see what file size I end up with ! There are other Autochart Live users on the board that may be along shortly with more/better info... 1 Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted August 27, 2016 Super User Posted August 27, 2016 As Goose52 stated, you don't need to be concerned with using up all the memory capacity. No, the card will not overwrite after it is full, it is a map card and can be full eventually. IF you ever fill it up, that's it. Another card is in your distant future. It has about 14 GB of water body shorelines (Zero Lines) and the rest of the 32 GB capacity is for the contour map creation inside the Zero Lines. If you got the right card, it states "North America", there is a body of water or three in that area of the world. Promotional data states "millions" of zero lines. The Zero Line card I have is not a SD card. It is a microSD inside a SD adapter. It has that size card for use in the Helix 5 and Helix 7 models with microSD readers. The data has to be processed by either the Auto Chart or Auto Chart Pro computer software to use in those units. The Zero Line card is not exclusive to Auto Chart Live. When you purchase the computer software, a Zero Line card comes with them. Maps created by Auto Chart Live and Auto Chart computer software function like Lakemaster mapping in the units. 1 Quote
TetraFish'n Posted August 27, 2016 Author Posted August 27, 2016 Thanks for the info gentlemen! Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted August 27, 2016 Super User Posted August 27, 2016 You do not have to put a Zero Line card in the unit to do Auto Chart Live. The unit's memory has 8 hours of data capacity. At any point you can put the Zero Line card in the unit and the internal memory will be transferred to the card automatically. Some just wait to fill up the 8 hours and then transfer the data to the Zero Line card. Then you will have 8 more hours of internal memory capacity. 2 Quote

I got mine on-line from Walmart ship-to-store but about $1.50 more. Had it in 3 days. 1 Quote

FWIW, I now have over 6 hours of recording on my ZLC and the total file size is still under 1 meg. It would seem likely that my Helix 10 will be obsolete and replaced by something new and improved long before I fill this ZL card... 1 Quote
