Prescription Polarized Glasses?

Hello,

Like most of you, I really like polarized sunglasses for bass fishing.

I wore glasses as a teenager. After my appointment in 1995, I decided glasses were not compatible with my lifestyle and just adapted.

Recently I re-thought things and went in for a checkup and new glasses.

What do you folks who wear glasses do for sunglasses on the water? I am thinking about getting a pair of prescription sunglasses but don't know where to start looking.

What do you suggest?

My eye doctor sells a couple of brands of glasses (Maui Jim is one) and they add my prescription to my sunglass order when I get them.  You can also go to the website of the different manufacturers of high quality sunglasses and check.  Some of them show eye doctors and locations in your area that will sell you their brand with your prescription added.

I get mine from my eye doctor (Maui Jims), they are extremely expensive with a prescription, but I do my best to take extra care of them.

I got a pair of prescription Ray Ban sunglasses...vision plan benefits will apply because they're prescription.  You can always also look into normal glasses with clip on, or if transition lenses are still a thing there's that option.

The style of glasses you can use for prescription depends on how strong of a prescription you need.  I have an astigmatism in both of my eyes, which limits me to only frames that are flatter than others.  So I can't get glasses will full "wrap around" coverage like I would prefer.  Since I need a flatter lens, my last pair were Ray Bans and my current pair are Oakleys.

Are contact lenses an option?

I got mine at the Wal Mart vision center.  They are on the same frame as my trifocals.  The sunglasses are just bifocals.  I really like them.

If you're a Costco member, their optical department is good. You must take your prescription, however. Will 2nd the motion for Walmart. I have some non prescription "real" glass polarized glasses from them that have been real good.

My eye Dr. Has made me 2 pairs of wiley X. a P17 and a airrage. Been very happy with them,

Costa also offers RX ,but they couldn't do my prescription. They also told me they wouldn't warranty the frames if my Dr. put a RX lens in them.. Wiley still warranties the frame.

I get mine at Costco. Have the price of anywhere else I have found.

I have to get the flatter ones also due to astigmatism.  I currently have a set of Randolph Engineering aviators. They give good overall coverage and are durable.  A bit of leg work as you can't walk into a local store. Mainly via the internet. Sounds scary but there is a pretty big market for prescription shooting glasses and Randolph Rangers are a popular model of shooting glasses. I spent just a bit more but if you out a set of them next to the Ray Bans they are a much more durable frame. (Relevant with my prescription = thicker lenses).

I'm not familiar with most of the places others have recommended, but I use Zenni for prescription glasses.  Titanium frame progressive lineless bi-focals for $106 a couple years ago.  They work well.  The only problem I see with dealing with on-line sources is that you don't get professional fitting as you do when buying local.   Sure beats the about $500 from my eye doctor.

I got my prescription polarized sun glasses at walmart as well. the frames are ray ban and cost about $99 when i got them, but the lenses were expensive, overall it was like $450 for them. luckily my aunt bought them for me as a gift. you may also want to ask if there are any kind of discounts/coupons for them if you go there, that also saved some money...

Over the years I have had several different sunglasses that work with my glasses.  I've tried the cheap clip on kind and the large glasses that fit over your glasses.  Those work well enough for the money but are far from great.  I've also done contact lenses and regular sunglasses. I never really liked the contacts.

 My favorite pair was a good pair of perception sunglasses.  They were very expensive but my wife's insurance at the time covered them so no out of pocket to me.  That pair is now several percriptions old and no longer works with my eyes.  

Currently I have my everyday glasses that have built in magnets to hold on a matching sunglasses.  They work well enough. And the cost for the sunglasses was not to much more than regular glasses would have been.

I got my prescription costas and love them. I think insurance reimbursed us about 300 of the 550. I wouldn't fish without them.

I went with the costa's years ago. My last couple pairs are wileyx, more affordable for me. Fit great, get the lenses anyway I want.

And the costa rx warranty is NON existant.
