Super User soflabasser Posted August 28, 2016 Super User Posted August 28, 2016 Ohio is very different from Florida, but I would assume that the bass and catfish can coexist if there is enough food for them to eat. Also there can only be so many predator species per acre of water, too many predators in small pond is not good. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 28, 2016 Global Moderator Posted August 28, 2016 Most every pond in Kansas has channel cats and bass coexisting. They're eat each other, but most any fish will eat another fish if given the chance. Channel cats also do not reproduce well in most ponds, so they aren't going to overpopulate. Generally, they're beneficial because they'll eat smaller bass to help keep the bass from getting overpopulated. 2 Quote
jr231 Posted September 19, 2016 Author Posted September 19, 2016 Thanks @GORDO , @soflabasser @Bluebasser86 Thanks for the tips. 28 in channel cat. Free lined a Gill. The cat came out of the weeds as I reeled it in slowly and crushed it. What a rush. 4 Quote

jr231 Posted September 20, 2016 Author Posted September 20, 2016 I'm not positive. I'd say at least 8 pounds. I didn't have my scale. I just got off work so I had my tape. In ohio you can get a "fish ohio" angler pin if you catch a certain species of certain length. For LM bass it is 21" and the channel cat is 26" so. It broke that by 2 inches. I was a little puzzled by the color. It looked completely black in the water. And still pretty dark out. I thought they were much lighter. Maybe it's age ? @soflabasser 1 Quote

Super User scaleface Posted September 20, 2016 Super User Posted September 20, 2016 Nothing wrong with stinkbait . A good punch bait will stay on for a longtime . 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted September 21, 2016 Super User Posted September 21, 2016 Fishing catfish dough bait I would put some on a weightless treble hook, toss it out and hold the rod. One bite and they will get the bait off. 1 Quote

Santee-Cooper has great flathead fishing, over 100lb, and we all know about the bass there. Road trip, lol....... 1 Quote
