Super User Cgolf Posted August 24, 2016 Super User Posted August 24, 2016 Since these threads are popular now, toss in one of my own. The answers will of course vary by region. For Wisconsin, if I was limited to one color it would be firetiger hands down. This catches fish in every water color including gin clear water. The reasoning is that this has a little bit off perch, gill, and pumpkinseed in it. That pretty much nails the main forage base up here. I am curious to see what everyone else comes up with and of course why. 1 Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted August 24, 2016 Super User Posted August 24, 2016 For clear water: Chrome blue For stained water: Chartreuse or, maybe, firetiger As my response indicates, for me there is no one best color. BUT if I were forced to choose one bait in one color, it would be boring old white. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 24, 2016 Super User Posted August 24, 2016 Chrome/ Blue for lipless cranks, Redear for square bills, specifically the Norman Fat Boy. 1 Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted August 24, 2016 Super User Posted August 24, 2016 If I was only going to have one color or pattern it would be a shad pattern either just a white with dark black back or a sexy shad type color. The reason is that those types of patterns are visible in dirty water yet still are natural to work well in clear water. 5 Quote

The Norman Redear deep little N has been really good for me over the years in both clear and stained water. The SK RES in bluegill is very similar to that color. Quote

I like fire Tiger , perch and other but a shad bait really works well in deep water and shallow . Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted August 24, 2016 Super User Posted August 24, 2016 I've caught more on shad color. That's what bass primarily eat most places. But I've had better luck with Gold metallic/black in ponds. Assuming there's shiners in said ponds. Firetiger works, but I don't know why. Yellow perch are not a staple most places I fish. 1 Quote
Super User Gundog Posted August 24, 2016 Super User Posted August 24, 2016 Natural crawfish (reddish-brown) has always been good. Whether its a muddy river or a clear lake that color works for me. 1 Quote
S. Sass Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Baby Bass Crystaglow on the Mann's Baby 1-Minus. This color has worked for me in muddy, green or brown stained, and pretty clear water. Cloudy, clear, raining, and at night. Not so sure its all the color as this bait does rattle but it has been a great producer since spring of this year it hasn't let me down. 4 Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 24, 2016 Super User Posted August 24, 2016 Replies will not vary by región, I´ve fished for bass up and down the entire Mexican lakes and a few Texan lakes and the results can be considered consistent: 1.- Silver sides black back 2.- Gold sides black back 3.- Silver sides blue back 4.- Firetiger With those 4 colors I catch bass anywhere I go, and if you think that Mexico is a region well, you don´t know Mexico. GORDO Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 gizzard shad for life. I dont even have shad in the waters I fish but the bass mostly eat crappie. Its a win-win no matter where you are. When I use FireTiger, the Pike seem to like it more than the bass 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 24, 2016 Super User Posted August 24, 2016 So far this summer the best colors have been shad, and firetiger. Quote
timsford Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 I can't use just 1. I have 4 color patterns i use, but the actual colors vary between manufacturers because u can't afford to have EVERYTHING custom painted lol. I use shad colors. Mainly black back with white belly but sometimes green or blue instead of black. This is to imitate shad and other baitfish. Craw colors are my second most used. Brown, green, or red mainly with orange highlights like my local craws. My third favorite color is bluegill colors. I like the natural bluegill patterns when pond fishing. And last but not least I have to have some muddy water cranks like albino white and black back chartreuse belly Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted August 24, 2016 Super User Posted August 24, 2016 Around here, a bluegill/perch color will catch me fish year round. Next choice would be olive craw color. 1 Quote
lakeannaangler Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Chartreuse sexy shad and chartreuse black back in stained water and natural shad in clearer water Quote
blckshirt98 Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 (Chartreuse) Sexy Shad and Natural Shad have been my go-to colors that always seem to get bit. Quote
Brett's_daddy Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Sexy Shad without a doubt for clear water and for darker water the Chartreuse Black Back! Quote
Molay1292 Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 If I was only going to have 1 color it would be fire tiger. Quote
Ktho Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 At the lake I fish the most the bass prefer red for some reason whether a lipless, squarebill or deep diver Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 24, 2016 Super User Posted August 24, 2016 There isn't anyway possible to settle on 1 color crankbait. Any given day or night I catch bass on about 3 different colors ranging from white Shad patterns to black-red craw patterns with blue, green, chartreuse patterns in between and that's what make crankbait fishing fun. Airman4754 Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 For lipless it's craw. For square bill, deep diver, and shad raps its shad color. I've really like the sexy shad 10XD. Quote

Or ohio... the climate and structure can be very different and so is forage I'm sure. Quote
