Super User everythingthatswims Posted August 23, 2016 Super User Posted August 23, 2016 Well, I'm not sure if a musky is a homebody, but what I do know is that I found the motherload. Today I fished for the last hour of daylight, hooked 4 fish, landed 2, had 2 follows, and I'm sure there were more around. Never moved my feet. I'm going to need an intervention or something before I'm willing to pick up a bass rod again. 6" SS Bull shad on a 90# fluoro leader, 20lb mono mainline, cardiff 400, mojo bass 7'9" swimbait rod. Not an ideal musky setup, but it's what I have. Did I mention I am using public transportation to make it from my dorm to the motherload? I hate having to do this to a pretty photo but I'm sure there are others who fish here and I don't want to mess it up for them. There was no one around to take this photo, and yes I laid the fish on the ground, but there was no other way for me to safely unhook it. Both fish rocketed off into the river upon release! I estimate the first fish was low 30" and the second was mid 30". I measured the smaller fish on my rod but I have no tape with me at school. 14 Quote

Super User soflabasser Posted August 23, 2016 Super User Posted August 23, 2016 Nice Muskies.Don't worry about blurring the background of the pictures, many of us would do the same to protect small bodies of water that can get fished out easily. 1 Quote

See it's a massive river, but I found the spot on the spot on the spot 1 Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Great evening! Shallow weed beds? Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted August 23, 2016 Super User Posted August 23, 2016 Nice muskies! They are pretty territorial fish, and will stay in one spot. Hopefully they keep cooperating for you! 1 Quote

Nope, a cold, silt filled creek flows into the river, so there is a big sand bar about 60 yards long 1' deep that is perpendicular to the flow of the river. It provides both a current break and plenty of cool water. I fished it many times for bass and didn't understand why they weren't there. Now I know why. Quote

Lucky Craft Man Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Nice Fish! Locating a Honey Hole like that is a great find. As far as having a hard time to go back to bass, I can understand that. However, after several days/weeks of not getting any action (which will happen as these are very temperamental fish), bass will be looking pretty good again. Quote
davecon Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Congratulation ! Always wanted to catch a Musky but I'm in Florida so that ain't gonna happen. Snook have become my obsession and now I fish for bass mostly during the spawn only so I understand your possible need for an intervention. If it were me I would ride it out though. Great job and keep us posted ! Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted August 24, 2016 Super User Posted August 24, 2016 Muskies are on my list of fish to catch and I will definitely make the trip up north to catch them. They remind me of our barracudas which are also a decent sized fish that give a good fight for its size. Quote
MassBass Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Whats the point of school if you got the musky bug in your head? Quote
