my dad recently bought a 4500 size Okuma stratus spinning reel. It is rated for 270 yards of 8 pound mono. I was hoping to put 125 yards of yellow tuff line force 15 pound test. i would use an 8-10 pound seaguar linvisx leader.

1. will this be enough line

2. do i need a backing

3. is invisx a good leader

4. is tuff line force good?

1.- Yes

2.- Yes

3.- Yes

4.- I can´t say, I have never tried it. Braid lasts so long that the only reel spool I have with Power Pro has had it for years.

That's a pretty hefty reel.  What's he planning on using it for?

Seriously, though, that reel would take 400 yards of braid.

Like i said, my dad bought it, with the thought that bigger is better, that was when i just got into fishing 6 times a week. It is a little bigger than a 2500 size, just holds lots of line

Get some inexpensive mono to fill as backing.  I'm sure Invisx would be fine as a leader, though I use actual leader material (Seaguar is my favorite). I haven't tried their 4orce line yet, but I like the lines I have tried: HeviCore, Tournament8, SuperCast, and XP.

I know what it is.  Haven't tried it.  Hevicore and XP are typical braid.  SuperCast is a fused and coated microfilament line.

Bigger can be better, larger spinning reels have larger drag pads, you can make more minute adjustments to the drag.

Use it man, put aome 20lb braid on it. It will cast a mile, i use 4000 reels on all my rods and i dont have any problems. And i find the drag to be better on bigger reels but it may just be me

Thanks, i actually put the 20 pound braid on a 1500 size reel, it only came with 100 yards, so it was perfect, i had to cut 10 yards out to make up for the backing. I use a 8 pound seagull invisx leader.
