Jester Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Whats the biggest boat that a 6hp Johnson will work with. Quote
basspro48 Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 I used to have a 6-horse Yamaha stick-steer on my 12ft. jon boat, but since I got a 14 footer a couple years ago I decided to sell it and just get a powerful trolling motor. Quote
Jester Posted February 6, 2006 Author Posted February 6, 2006 How about a 15' fiberglass? I already have the trolling motor. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted February 6, 2006 Super User Posted February 6, 2006 I;VE GOT A 14' LOWES THAT HAS A 6 H.P. ON IT BUT IT ONLY WEIGHS 240 LBS. I HAVE WISHED I HAD GOTTEN A LARGER MOTOR FOR IT. I DON'T THINK I WOULD PUT IT ON A FIBERLASS BOAT. Quote
Yankee_Bassman Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 The motor will "work" on about anything; the question is, what are looking to do with it? It isn't going very fast no matter what you put it on. If you're a big guy, it's going even slower. If you're not overly large, I'd think it would do OK on a 15' fiberglass, my buddy has a 9.9 on a 12' fiberglass Sears Gamefisher jon-style boat. Just don't try to take it the length of Sam Rayburn or across Champlain, and you'll do OK. Quote
Madhouse27 Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 I'd probably find an inexpensive 14ft aluminum. You might be suprised how well it pushes one of those around. When I was a teenager I had one of these with a little Mercury 4.5 horse and while it was no speed demon it got around pretty well. Quote
Flatfish Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 A lot of the boat rental places have 6hp Johnson or Evinrudes on 16' V's. I have a 8hp that I have put on my 16' Jon and it does all right, just don't be in a big hurry. Quote
