Salmon rig??

It's not too long before the salmon start running in Michigan. Im going to travel to petoskey to fish in the bear river. I will be using spawn sacs and a 6 6" med action ugly stik with an Abu Cardinal s60 with 20 lb mono. Anybody have and suggestions for me (lb test line, how to rig the spawn bag, hook size, how to fish, etc:

You're gonna get pwnd with that rod.  Need to step that part up, both in power and length. I use a 9' rod rated to 20#.  You don't need to go up to 20# mono, 8-12 will do.  You aren't going to stop the first run, so it doesn't matter, let 'em take drag. 

For hooks, I like Raven brand.  I don't bother with egg sacs for salmon.  In the mouths of the rivers, we just chuck brightly accented spoons - Cleos, KO Wobblers, Kasmasters, etc.  Once they're in the rivers, and upstream, flo. colored yarn wrapped on the hook does it.  About as much as it takes to get a ball of yarn about the size of single salmon egg. 

Save and cure your salmon eggs for brown trout whan the run pater.  Save your brown trout eggs for winter stelelhead the rest of the winter and spring.

For salmon and steelhead i use a 9' or 10',  2 or 3 power rod. They're actually to light of a power for salmon but it's what I use. If I were to purchase a new one I would purchase  a 8'6" to 9', 5 power. I would also use a 3000 or 4000 size spinning reel.  As far as spawn sacs I never use them for salmon I find that spoons, 1/4 oz super spots and, hot-n-tots work best for them.  I keep my eggs for winter steelhead.  Oh I almost for got I would also recommend  braid in 15# or 20# with a fluorocarbon  leader anywhere between  12# and 20#. When I started fishing for salmon and steelhead years ago I used a 7' berkley cherrywood rod and quickly realized I needed more specific  setups for the species. Yes I caught  some fish but it was a pain and when I stepped up to a 9' wild river I was amazed at how much easier it was to control the bait as well as the fish when I hooked them.
