Can I pitch and flip from a kayak?

I would like to learn to pitch and flip.

Forgive a newbie but I only ever see people doing this in vids and always standing on a bass boat, it looks like you need to be a little higher to get the underhand swing.

1.Can I do it from my canoe or kayak when I can't stand up in either one?

2. If so will I need a shorter rod to make it work due to being so close to the waters surface?

yes you can but the angle of trajectory is different for sure.  That being said, there are probably as many if not more kayaks that give you the ability to stand so it isn't as much of an issue as you would think.

Its not hard at all. I do it from the sitting position. You may not get the same distance as standing but when your in a kayak you can get closer to your prey.

I punch from my float tube and a yak. I have better results using a roll cast. You are already low to the water. A nice easy roll cast can give close to the same entry as a pitch.

Flipping and roll cast is easy. Pitching is easy while standing. While sitting, a little tougher but it can be done. Just remember, you are on a kayak, get closer or on top of the bass, no need to pitch but flip.

I typically roll cast instead of pitch.  I've had back problems and just feel more stable casting seated as much as possible and the roll cast has been just about as stealthy as a pitch.

I can do it, but I have a difficult time with the hookset, just feels like a funny angle to me. For that reason, I've gone to mainly using spinning gear for my slow moving baits except for in very heavy cover.

With the right hull, you can do just about anything.

easy to pitch from a seated position with a little roll cast.  but to truly flip (as in moving only line, not engaging reel) i'd have to be in the standing position.

I fish standing 98% of the time in my canoe.. I don't like to sit while I'm fishing. That 2% is when I'm not casting its when I'm hungry.
