I am now debating taking out my rod's rod locker because my spinning rod's eyes are too big to fit and I can't enlarge the openings. Wondering how many people do it and how many people don't do it. I hate changing things on my newer boat but it may make things easier to use. I do already have all of my rods in rod sleeves and use them in conjunction with the rod organizer.

Do you take out the rear support also?

Wondering if there are any negative effects of taking out the rod organizer?

Anyone ever take out the rod organizer and then put it back in?

Update:

I tried to remove the rod organized today and could not. I took the screws out and tried to pull it out and it wouldn't come out.

I opened up the other compartment, removed the box and took a pic. Now I know why the rod organized won't come out.

Any solutions to this?

Sorry, I tried flipping the photo and it didn't work.

Apparently they foamed it in.

I keep spinning rods in the starboard locker and baitcasters in the port rod locker with the rod organizers.

if you take out the organizer.....try to keep it in one piece so you can put it back if you want to.

I understand the reluctance to modify your boat.......but.....its your boat....rig it to suit you.

I wish I had that option. I only have one rod locker.

Pull the front tube section out. Use rod sleeves and do not look back.  The only time I like having an organiser in is if it is in one of the really deep rod locker and many rods can be stored below he tubes.  Then the tubes help organise my most used rods but I can still get a rod out from below.

I took the front and back out of mine. I went from having to work to fit 10 rods, to easily fitting nearly 30.

Mine have been somewhere in a storage shed for several years and will stay there as long as I own the boat.

I thought I wanted rod tubes until I had a boat with a big rod locker without them.

Much better without.

I found out I have this problem. I took all the screws out and it wouldn't come out. Then I found out why. They foamed it in.

Anyway to still be able to remove it?

If you can access where this picture is taken try a long flat head screwdriver. Run it from the exposed tubes into the foam. It should help free them up enough that you should be able to get them out of there.

And it'll just pop apart easily most likely?

I don't know if it'll be easy, but it should loosen it up a bit.

Seeing this post reminded me of a similar problem I'm having with my 17.5 Fishhawk. My floor  locker isn't long enough for my 7'2' rods. Also the bottom row is for baitcasters only so it wasted space for me since i use Spinning rods. I thought about the same thing. taking out the tubes so I could use the bottom row. also thought about extending my locker 6-8" so all of my rods will fit. the new Fishhawk comes with the extended rod locker so evidently other people had the same issue.
