Hello everyone!  I just joined and enjoy reading everything this site has to offer!  I have read a lot about the different types of jon boat conversions on these message boards and have seriously given them some thought as of late.  I guess you could say I was "inspired" on how creative one can get with a jon boat.

My question is this:  How stable is 1436 jon?  I want something that I am able to stand up in to fish.  Is a 1436 jon reasonable for this or should I be looking for something at least a 1444 or 1448?  (also, i'm 6'7" tall, just thought I would toss that in)

Any help would be wonderful.

I would go with the wider boat. I would also go longer to a 16 foot if you can. I have a 1444 and It works just fine. I just put an elevated casting deck on it and it is still very stable. I do wish I had a 16ft boat when it comes to fishing with friends.

As far as stability goes, anything 12 or up is fine, especially a 14 but with your size, I would consider Fluke's suggestions strictly on the basis of room.  Stability won't be an issue for you, but storage and casting space might be.

My Dad has a 1448 jon boat and has put decks on it. We've fished out of it quite a bit and we've never been thrown out yet! LOL! When I was in the market to get my own boat, Dad and I talked this over a good bit and I decided on a 1668. Given your size, you may want to consider bumping up some. You'll be a little more stable and have more room and storage too. Hope this helps!

I have a Lowe 1652MT with decks and console steering all installed by myself, and it is very stable when fishing by my self. I can move all over it and not worry, when some one else is with me it moves around a little, not enough to get tippy but enough to get your attention. Get the widest boat you can afford and you won't reget it later.

mine is a 1452, and me and my freinds would dive off of it this summer at the lakes.  so all 3 of us would stand on the edge, and it never even came close to tipping.  36 inches wide is not stable

I have a Tracker Grizzly 1648, wouldn't go any smaller. It's stable and has room to move.
