S. Sass Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Well it started out great left the house headed to the lake at 6am got on the water and started pulling rod sox off taking rods out of the locker. That was where the worst part happened. I went to shut the locker and it didnt close all the way, Yup you guessed it my StCroix Mojo Bass Spinnerbait rod tip was in the way. The rod is now slightly shorter. Yeah I know its not a $300 dollar rod but it was my rod and $100 one at that. Guess this means I am looking for another rod. Anyway I went ahead and fished with my other rods and pulled these three out in about an hour on the ZMan Ribbon Tail WormZ in Pumpkinseed. All three were 15" to 16 1/2" 1 Quote

We were all up in some tree stumps and it made for some fun trying to keep them from wrapping me up. As for the rod yeah it wasn't like my favorite best rod in the world but dang it I am trying to get a few more dedicated slowly and I have managed to ruin 2 rods in the last two trips to the lake. This time it took exactly 3 1/2 inches off the end and has left 2 7/8" past the last eye on the rod. I am considering having it repaired I just don't know that I would like the rod at all after repair. I don't know how much will it change the way the rod acts. Quote

So it started out as a Spinnerbait rod ~ 7'MH Mod. Fast for 12 - 20 lb test 3/8 - 3/4 lures it WAS a perfect rod for searching open water with big spinnerbaits for active fish. Now you have a 6' 10" MH Slightly less Moderate Fast stick with probably the same stats as above. Maybe now it's a TARGET CRANKER: Ideally suited for making shorter, precise casts with Squarebill Crank Baits. Of course it may still be completely useful as a spinnerbait rod as well. A-Jay 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 8, 2016 Global Moderator Posted August 8, 2016 You can always send it back to St. Croix and pay the fee to have them replace it. I just did the same with my LTB that broke on a hookset. It's worth it for the LTB, I'm not sure how much it is for a Mojo but it might not be worth the cost to go that route. It's probably still functional as a spinnerbait rod if you just retip it. 1 Quote

S. Sass Posted August 8, 2016 Author Posted August 8, 2016 The good news is I have a local guy that will fix it readjusting the eyes to make it correct placement as if it was originally this length for under $20. Also I just ordered 2 new Fenwick's as the Aetos are now under $100 each and they keep giving me free shipping. So now I need more reels haha its a trap I tell ya a trap!!! 4 hours ago, buzzed bait said: that first picture sucked... at least you went on to catch some fish though! You ever throw Texas rig worms on a crank bait rod? Lmao It was horrible but I wasn't not going to fish. And I had 2 crank bait rods and that broke rod to pick from. I broke my other bait casting rod the outing before and the new replacement one hadn't arrived yet. Should be good to go this coming weekend though. 2 Quote
dallasdb Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 The Aetos is $100?!?!? That's one of my favorite rods. 1 Quote

UP TO 50% OFF CLEARANCE ITEMS Actually it was $94.88 plus $7.49 tax that made it $102.27 each at my door. I have one of the MODEL # A701MHMFC and a MODEL # A741MFC both in the mail coming. Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 8, 2016 Super User Posted August 8, 2016 Like forgetting to put the plug in your boat everyone will lose a rod tip sooner or later. I have lost the tips when rolling up the window and not realizing the rod tip was outside of the car. And then when I slammed the well lid on one of my G. Loomis rods and broke off the tip. I also broke a rod in half when I forgot I had it hanging in a rod holder inside my SUV and I opened the passenger side rear door. It made a loud crack. Then there was the time I took my wife out in my boat and forgot to put the plug in. That was interesting, especially since she can't swim. I think people heard the yelling and screaming as we took on water up and down the river. Then there was the time when I got a bad backlash in my spinning reel with the line in the gear so I unscrewed the cap to remove the spool to unwind the line and had the cap pop out of my hand and into the drink. So far I have lost only one rod/reel combo out of the boat in all my years fishing. Too deep to try to get it so I had a fun time replacing it. If you have an hour I can tell you about all the baits I lost in the water and trees. Live and learn. 2 Quote

Yeah when I took the rod to Jim (the guy who is going to fix it) he was telling me stories of his bad moves. He had his rods in the back of a suburban I think anyway it had electric back glass. He said everything was in fine he went to Lake Fork fished the tournament put the rods back in and some for some reason he thought he heard the wind noise on the trip home like a window was cracked. So out of habit he checked with the switches in the door not by eye. When he got home he went to unload and apparently he had let the window down the rod tips poked out and he chopped them all off. 1 Quote
