1simplemann Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 I'm trying to find some underwater humps by using google earth. Previously I had downloaded GE . I was able to change the date and look at low water years. That is no longer on my computer. I now have Google crome. I click on the upper right corner Maps section and presto it comes up. What I can't figure out is how to change the date. The lake was much lower 10 years ago but I didn't fish it then so want to go back and look. Navionics hasn't mapped this section so I don't really know whats down there. IE That underwater island I hit in 40' water that came out of nowhere. Dented up the prop pretty good. Lucky I didn't lose the lowere unit. Any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance. Quote
1simplemann Posted August 6, 2016 Author Posted August 6, 2016 One of you tech guru's should be able to me with this? This "middle aged" bass fisherman ain't so good at this stuff. Quote
curtis9 Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 The historical maps are only in Google earth, you can't see them using the online maps, so you'll need to download Google Earth again. 1 Quote
1simplemann Posted August 7, 2016 Author Posted August 7, 2016 I had it downloaded. Where did it go? Used it all the time. Now I have this Google crome. It sure looks like GE. Quote
curtis9 Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Chrome is your web browser, earth is a stand alone program. Quote
1simplemann Posted August 8, 2016 Author Posted August 8, 2016 Ok that makes sense. When we installed GC where did the GE go? I used it all the time. Weird. This tech stuff is sometimes confusing for us middle aged guys. Quote

It is possible for it to still be on your computer, it may be hiding. the desktop icon could have been. removed due to the Chrome installation. If you can't find it in your files or programs, Type in 'Google Earth' into your web browser and download it again. Just make sure you're downloading from Google! If I ever loose a program, I just download it again and re-install. It may even show where the original is hiding. Hope this helped some! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted August 8, 2016 Super User Posted August 8, 2016 I would see if your lake is on the Navionics Web App. It's just web site, so there's nothing to install. http://webapp.navionics.com/ 1 Quote

The icon was there one day and gone the next. I think your right. It's hiding. i just have to figure out how to find it. Quote

It's hiding. i just have to figure out how to find it. If you have a PC open up the start menu at the bottom right corner, and type in google earth, and it should bring it up. If you have windows 10 on your PC I believe you'd still look at the bottom right corner, and type it in where it says "Ask Cortana. Ask me anything." Now if you have a mac, you'll want to open up finder and use the search bar after selecting downloads. Not sure which one of those you use, but that should generally cover all of them. I may be slightly off about windows 10 because I have a mac, but I'm about 90% sure about it. haha Hope this helps some more! Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 9, 2016 Super User Posted August 9, 2016 Try looking at Bing Maps. I was on there the other day looking at a pond, and the picture was from 8 or 9 years ago. Quote
wnspain Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Navionics web app isn't even close to being accurate on the lake I frequent. Can't comment on it about the accuracy for other bodies of water. I would imagine that all depth contours are obtained via sonar but after becoming intimately familiar with the structure on home water, Nav web app is off as much as 20' more in some spots, others seem to be more accurate given water fluctuations. B1gD4ddy Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Can anyone explain how Google Earth or navionics work, I have downloaded Google earth and created an account with navionics but I don't see much difference between Google Earth and Google Map, as far as Navionics goes, I can't seem to find anything. There is a lake in Guelph Ontario, Guelph lake but it doesn't appear on navionics. I'm looking for Mohawk lake in Brantford Ontario but nothing is labelled. From what I understood you could check within the water using Google Earth but I have no idea how to do that. I am looking to find out where there may be ridges or weed lines etc. I have an inflatable dingy as a boat and have to row myself around, I want to limit the amount of rowing I have to do and increase the amount of time my line is in the water. Any help is greatly appreciated. Quote
