Well after nearly 2 years of planning and anticipation I start checking things off tomorrow..We're leaving on our first extended trip in our new (to us) motorhome.

1st planned stop in is So. Dakota...Mt. Rushmore, Black Hills, Bad Lands, Custer Battle Field, Crazy Horse monument.

Then on to Cody Wy. for a few days...then to Yellowstone for 5...and the Grand Tetons for 3

On to Colorado Spings Colorado ...Garden of the Gods and Pike's Peak

South to Santa Fe N.M....No specific plan

After all that we pick up old Rt.66, turn east and head home!!

I'm hoping to find a small secluded lake or river in So. Dakota or Montana somewhere to pull over, grab a sandwich, light up a big fat cigar I've been saving, and catch my first smallmouth ever!

We'll be traveling over 5600 miles, through 19 states, 3 time zone's in 5 weeks!!!

Do me a favor...In a quiet moment think good thoughts on our behalf...I may need all the good karma I can get ;)

Congrats!

I'm about 3 hours away from shawnee forest (garden of the gods ). It's a beautiful area. I don't know how opt you are for hiking.  But if you hike below the garden of the gods you will find old natural caves that are pretty neat.

Enjoy your trip!

my boss just did nearly this exact same trip in his RV and he's from Tampa!  He had a blast out there and i've no doubt you will too.

i've been to most of those places you've listed and all over Montana.  I have to say though, Pike's Peak may be my favorite on the list.  I stayed there for about 3 weeks working in a hotel.  every morning that i walked out of the lobby i got to look dead ahead at the mountain and man what a great view it was!

ENJOY!!

How I admire you. My wife and I are planning to do the same trip. We have been looking at RV's, and wow, they are proud of them. We are still nearly two years from her retirement so we have plenty of time to plan. Hope you have a wonderful and safe journey. Enjoy....

I did a similar trip about 5 years ago, although I was little I still look back on it as one of the funnest vacations of my life. And BTW, Rocky Mountain National Park is a must if you're visiting Colorado!

We're exactly half way (1,089 miles) from our first "scheduled" stop in So. Dakota. Had a few glitches along the way but we're rollin now.

I just keep thinking about that smallmouth in my future!
