RUSS9999 Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 A lot of Channel Cats and 2 Blue Cats on a crankbait, But this is my first Flathead on a crankbait. 3 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 2, 2016 Global Moderator Posted August 2, 2016 Pretty little flathead. Seems that's the size I usually catch on them save a few teen and low 20 pounders I've caught on deeper cranks. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted August 2, 2016 Super User Posted August 2, 2016 This little guy took a crank, also. As far as I know, he's still got it. Got my arm in nearly to the elbow and still couldn't dislodge it. Told him he could keep it. 2 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted August 2, 2016 Super User Posted August 2, 2016 BTW, that guy was hooked from my kayak. Gave me a nice long tour of much of the river system before I could flag down a boat with a net....if they hadn't dropped by, I'd probably still be getting dragged up and down that river 3 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 3, 2016 Super User Posted August 3, 2016 Lately, I have been catching a lot of flatheads and channel cats on shallow running crankbaits. The channel cats have been around the deeper water, and the flatheads have been around cover. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 3, 2016 Global Moderator Posted August 3, 2016 I'll be on one of my best lakes to catch cats on artificials tonight. Last time I was there I caught 34 channel cats on bladed jigs and spinnerbaits in one night in my hunt for the lakes big bass. They're fun for awhile, but got annoying after awhile. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted August 3, 2016 Super User Posted August 3, 2016 I catch channel cats on crankbaits all the time , so much so that I target them . I have caught lots of flatheads on jigs , but dont recall ever catching one on a crankbait . I dont think I ever caught a Blue on a lure . 2 Quote

I target channels and flatheads as well with swimbaits and spoons now. 1 Quote
bigbassin' Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Only catfish I've ever caught on lures all came off rattle traps. 1 Quote
Hog Basser Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Caught this guy up in the weeds near shore while bass fishing. 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 6, 2016 Global Moderator Posted August 6, 2016 Caught a baby flathead today on a Pit Boss flipping grass, first time I've ever done that. I've caught all three species of cats on lures, but I don't fish many lakes with blues, I've only caught them on jigs and plastics. I caught an albino blue on a small, paddletail swimbait this summer. I caught my PB flathead on a finesse jig this spring as well. 5 Quote
Fisher-O-men Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Wow! ^^^ That is a beast! That other fish needs to get some sun! 1 Quote
MikeWright Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Never seen an albino cat, that's awesome! 1 Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted August 7, 2016 Super User Posted August 7, 2016 What works even better than cranks sometimes are slow trolled spinnerbaits. I usually dress them with a strip of beef liver. Been awhile since I've done it, but it use to be very productive. Only problem is, you tend to catch bigger cats with this method and they crush a spinnerbait. Sometimes destroying it. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted August 8, 2016 Super User Posted August 8, 2016 That albino blue is cool . I caught this flathead on a crappie sized jig and grub . Not fishing for any speices in particular , just trying to get bites . 3 Quote
Nice_Bass Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Going to be fishing LOZ this week/weekend and will be fishing quite a bit of channels/points/bluff ends when they are running current and docks when not... I am sure to catch a few on the bluff ends and always look forward to the fight. 1 Quote
