After I've had multiple problems with my Shakespeare Excursion reel I've decided to look into a more expensive reel made by a reputable company. Cheap 20$ reels haven't been cutting it for me. I've narrowed it down to a Pflueger president limited edition or a Pflueger president. I fish mostly for lm bass, sm bass ,bluegill, drum ,and pike. There's quite a price difference in the two reels so I want to make a good choice. I will be paring it with a 6 6 medium action ugly stik

I own both and you cant go wrong with either. One thing to consider is the higher gear ratio available on the limited edition. I actually prefer the slower ratio of the regular president because i tend to fish too fast as it is. Again, both are great reels.

If you look at Dicks the Limited Edition is a little lighter and is selling for $79.99 for a 30 series reel. The President in a 30 series is selling for 59.00 so the Limited is only $20 more.  Also there is a $10 off every $50 you spend (up to $30 off total) deal going on. So you can get $10 off either. Plus Dicks is offering free shipping on top of the $10 off deal. Looks like you can't do wrong. I personally have never touched a Limited, but I own 7 Pflueger Presidents in 25, 30 ,35, and 40 series.  Several are over 10 years old. 3 are mine and the rest are my wife's. Personally I would not hesitate to get the slightly heavier and proven President.

I prefer the size of the 30 series presidents, difference is 5.2:1 for the regular and 6.2:1 on the limited edition

Also the limited has that handle! I called pflueger to buy an extra spool and just for grins inquired on the price of the limiteds handle. It was like 35 bucks!

The size 30 LE is .5 oz lighter and has 5 inches greater per turn retrieve rate than the size 30 president. That is, the LE is slightly lighter and faster...is that along with the aesthetic differences worth an extra $20?  Only you can answer that for yourself.  But either reel, you're making a good choice.

If you don't mind, how much was the spool?

For the buck, you can do a lot worse than the standard President. I own 3 plus a Trion. All these Pfluegers perform extrememly well. I, for one, would not pay the extra cost for the limited. But that's just me. :)

A couple of other differences that have not been mentioned is the sealed drag on the LE, it also has an aluminum pinion gear and main shaft that reduce the weight by a little over 1/2 oz.    Braid ready spool, and carbon fiber handle as well as a little higher IPT.    The one I own has been very smooth and enjoyable  to fish.   I like the cosmetics, and the handle and drag are enough to earn the extra 20 dollars from me.

I got a limited edition for Father's Day this year and I'm really happy with it. Is it worth the extra money? I don't know, but I do enjoy mine, and it's a great looking reel. I also like that it has the year on it, so I can tell you exactly how long it lasts:D

i faced the very same question myself a couple months ago, exact same two reels. in the end i decided to go with the original Presidents(i got 2) because of long standing great reviews, the LE while touted as better in some ways, has not had that test of time like the original Presidents...

I wouldnt go bigger than a 30 size reel for that 6'6 ugly stik...
