In need of 7 foot medium heavy rod

I need a rod to go along with my casitas. I need an all around, multi purpose rod that I can throw everything on, I just broke my Abu Garcia vengeance and I am ready to upgrade. Every time I think I know what rod I want I find a review telling me why I shouldn't get it. I have about 170$ to spend. I would love to only pay 100$ but not for something that will break or be disfunctional. I just want a quality product that will be a work horse for me, it doesn't even have to be 7 foot that is just my preference. Reccomendations?

While I have not fished one, the Diawa Tatula rods look to be a good deal in the 100 dollar rod market.   The Powell series rods have gone down in price and also look to be nice rods in your price range.   If you want to spend it all on a rod I would look at the St. Croix Avid series.

I love the avid but if your short on coin then i also have a lamiglas excel 735 that i love.  It might be more of a heavy but i found it cheap.  I love it for frogs, small swim baits and all jigging ang punching.  I have the older orange one and i picked it up for around a hundred bucks.  I would not trade my st croix for the lamiglas but also a good choice.

Here are three suggestions and I fish rods from each company. Irod Genesis II rods Look at a  IRG693C “Harold’s Lone Star Special” It is a 6'9" all around workhorse or a IRG744 7'4 MH 1/4 o 3/4 all around rod. These rods sell for $159

Next look at the Dobyns Sierra series they run $170. Look at the SA 703C and 704C rods.  Both of these rods are available in the Fury series for $110. I think you will like the feel of the Sierra a bit more but the Fury is well made, light and well balanced.

Third look at Powell Max3D rods. Call the factory and ask for a Powell Max3D 683CEF. I own a Powell Max 683CEF but it is an original series not the 3D. It had been removed from the lineup when the 3ds came out. I had a conversation with the owner and he said they added it back in, it is not on the website yet, but are available for sale now. The only thing about these rods is none of them are great at cranks. You need a specific medium action moderate taper rod to do that right. Just keep that in mind.

Duckett ghost 7'3" mh great rod for $100. Haven't had any problems with mine and I fish it hard!

I have heard that the ducketts have really bad guides

Yeah I have been looking at dobyns and irod. I have seen a lot of mixed reviews and almost went with irod, but I know they are made in China and I worry about quality. do you own an irod

Heads up the Dobyns furys are a secret "gen 2" and come with improved guides! The guides on a fury you buy today are better than the guides the fury was originally sold with lol

There are lots on rods made in china. Dobyns rods are too, and many other manufacturers including lots on jdm rods. If you want American look at loomis, St Croix, edge rods, kistler, falcon, hammer, alx, and others or have a custom made

I own two Irods and there is no issues with any of the Irod rods.  I am a member of The Bass College and its' owner Steve used to order them directly from Irod ( he became friends with the owner of Irod). He would have anyone interested to get on a list and he would order them in a big batch.  I bet over three orders there are at least 100 or more rods in members hands and I have never heard one complain. They are well made,feel light in your hand, balance well and have good components.

I also own one Dobyns and am about to pick up a new Dobyns Sierra  These to are well built, light balance well and have good components. Between my wife and I we own 6 G Loomis and I like these other two rods just as well as them.
