They have a neoprene handle on them that some guys love and some hated. I really like the handle on them, but they seemed to have breakage issues when they first came out and a lot of problems with the eyes being way crooked. They resolved the issues but it was too late, too many folks were turned off to them and now they're discontinued. Lots of them still out there for sale at a steal though. Turkey sandwich Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 I have a few Rage rods and really like them. The idea behind the handle was to offer something that stayed "grippy" when wet better than cork or foam. There are some pretty mixed opinions about them, but I kinda dig the grip for bottom contact baits and have had no issues with them feeling slippery, even while wading or in the rain. Water drips off instead of being soaked up. I don't like the split/blank contoured grip for crankbaits really, but I do like it for jigs and bottom contact baits. The only other criticism has to do with micro guides. Some folks love'em, some hate'em. These are pretty bare bones (no fancy inserts), but they tend to fish well. These were good $160 rods that became almost absurd $89 rods once they got canceled. 1 Quote

I'd call them first and let them know what's going on but St. Croix has excellent customer service. Quote

As has been mentioned previously, they had several problems early on including breakage, I brought that to their attention and they made the blanks much better. St Croix produced them in Mexico as a low cost alternative but other issues kept them from going mainstream. I kind of like the Handle but like cork better... have several still in use and still swinging the brutes in with'em. Actually, I have several of the Legend tournament series in the same length weight etc and like them much better, and for sure I like the guides much more. Hope you're doing well! 5 Quote

The handle is what I'm curious about! A young student of mine decided to start building costom rods & would like me to text drive em for him; I have the option of what handle material to use. I have very limited experience with Rage Rod & need y'all input! Quote
Big-O Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 That handle is fine except slippery when your hand has the slightest bit of oil or fish slime on it... Many of the foam handles now days are great with me and back when I built rods, I used a similar type of foam to what's on the 'Power Tackle' rods or Cork as they were my favorites. I was one of the individuals that had issues with the Rage series when they first came out, I switched over to the Legend tournament series, and never looked back. The LTB's are great rods. Quote

No wonder more rod companies are starting to use them. I've never met anyone that has fished with them that dislikes them. Like them much better than cork or Eva Quote

Only have it on my newest rod, but will definitely be considering it on all rods in the future be it custom or stock rods. Really liked their grips on my golf clubs and think they're going to be great on the rods as well. Quote
