808bass Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Well dropped my girlfriend off to work @ 10 and hit a set of local retention ponds where I have my caught my PB at. Slow start to the day, probably 5 or 6 one-two pound bass but around 12:30 was hit by this toad! Running a Watermelon Senko, texas rigged BTW, hotter than a you know what out there!! 1 Quote

Super User soflabasser Posted August 1, 2016 Super User Posted August 1, 2016 Congratulations on catching a nice one.The bass fishing is great this time of year if you are willing to put in the time needed. Quote
wnspain Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Nice! Especially from the bank for that time of day. Must have been up under the top water cover catching some shade? Quote
BareHook Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Nice! I agree its just a hot over here on the east coast. I feel like the bass I'm catching are already half cooked, the water feels like a warm bath. Ken Quote
mplspug Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 I've had decent luck at the retention pond this summer compared to last summer (I have only lived here 2 years). The bass seem to be hanging close to shore in the early morning in one spot where there is some sort of baitfish that appear to be spawning. I should dip net them to see what they are. The bass have been hitting mostly the chatter bait on the fall when jigging it. I also was able to wrangle another 5#+ bass and a bowfin a couple feet from shore flipping under the lily pads near a bush back when the water was up. I am getting concerned about the water levels. The pond is at the winter levels. I hope it doesn't stress out the fish too much, although the ones I have caught have been pretty healthy. I would like to see the water some up. Quote

Didn't catch my personal best yesterday (about 8 years ago actually) but I'd say she yesterdays catch was a comfortable 3lbs 2 hours ago, wnspain said: Nice! Casted from bank across to a grass peak/ledge sticking out into the water and I think I landed on top of her head lol Just went back out this morning around 7am and fished a honey hole where a neighbor showed me a picture of 8-9lb they caught. Crazy how they actually live in these sets of retention ponds. Only caught 2; just dinkers. GF caught 4 dinkers and a 2lber, atleast she was happy so trip was worth it. 20 minutes ago, mplspug said: I've had decent luck at the retention pond this summer compared to last summer (I have only lived here 2 years).
