My frogging rod just broke yesterday, so I am in the market for a new one.  FFO has a seven foot medium heavy fast vigilante for a good price, and abu rods usually run stiffer than rated.  So my question is, will this rod work for frogs?

As do I, but I'd like to upgrade to a heavy because I sometimes fish long-range with frogs, 30 to 50 yards at times.

What is your budget for a rod?

I used a veritas frog rod for a while and it felt like a heavy rather than a medium heavy.

I've been using my new 7' MH Abu Garcia Pro Max with 50lb braid (Sufix 832) for frogs and I really like it. That said, my last big bass was a 20" hog caught on a 6' 6" medium Pflueger President through heavy pads on 10lb braid with frog. Not ideal, but it works.

I use a 7'6" vendetta and you are right, Abu's do run stiff, that thing is a broomstick, but I still like it. A MH will be fine.

I use a MH Veritas 2.0 Frog Rod. IMO a decent rod at a decent price point. Could be a little better, but then $100 doesn't buy you top of the line either. B)

Thanks for the help!  I ended up ordering the seven foot mh fast action vigilante like you guys suggested.  I will try to remember to come back in a week or two to tell you guys how I like it.

Well, I got the rod last week.  First time out with it I broke fifty pound braid on the very first hookset with thirty yards of line still attached to the frog.  Thought it was kind of strange but didn't think much of it.  After repeating this for the next two or three times in a row, I looked the guides over to see if that was the problem.  Turns out one of the guides has a large chip out of it and was cutting my line, I tested this by rubbing a piece of my line against it and it readily broke with little pressure.  So I talked to FFO's customer sourvice and they said they would have to send me a return label, then when it finally gets here I send it back in for them to look at.  If they correctly determine it is not my fault they said that they will send me another one, but the whole process will most likely take a month to a month and a half.  The rod felt nice in my hands and the power and action seemed perfect for frogs, but I a kind of frusterated from the wait.  I probably won't be able to use frogs on it this year but I guess there is next year.  When my villain broke they just asked for pictures instead of having to send it in, don't know why they won't do this with a 20 dollor rod but they will with a fifty dollor rod.  Sorry for venting a little.

Were you dealing with Abu garcia with your Villain rod or FFO.The difference may be FFO policy not Abu's policy.  BY the way I fish an original Veritas 7 ft MH for m y frogs and it works great. I know they have a specific frog rod now in the Veritas 2 rod series but they did not have it back then.  i got it when the new series was coming out and Dicks decided to clear them out for $30 bucks but I also caught them on a 20 percent off store manager special day so I paid about $25.

Man it paid me to stop in tha day.

Both times I was dealing with pure fishing, which owns/is but isn't FFO, Abu Garcia, Fenwick, etc.( confusing but it's what the customer service guy said)

Pure fishing must be the parent company I guess.

Well, I found out why it took nearly five months.  When I finally got a hold of the the right person said that my rod got dropped off across the street from the customer service center and sat there for a few months, until someone that worked there must have tossed it thinking it was empty or something.  They decided to just refund the purchase price.  So it finally turned out ok, I guess it's mostly fed-x's fault and they were nice enough to give me a refund, so although it took a while they still do have pretty good customer service over all.

I also had to send a rod back to FFO for a cracked guide insert, although I saw it before I used it after having it only a couple days. They sent me a fed ex label to send it back, and I got a replacement a week later. So I had about as good an experience as possible with their return policy, but definitely check any rod you order closely when it arrives.

I did not, I kept expecting to hear from them so I waited.  I guess it means I'm in the market for another frog rod... again lol.  I will be looking for some deals on cyber Monday and online on black Friday.  I'll post back here once I buy a rod and have used it a few times.
