Super User tcbass Posted July 28, 2016 Super User Posted July 28, 2016 I was told that Ranger is the only bass boat that doesn't use wood in it's transom (I'm assuming wood is used for the floors on all bass boats) and that other boats use wood in the transom. Is that true?

Ranger was one of the first to go away from wood back in the 80's I believe it was. Go out to youtube and search for videos from the Ranger,Triton Skeeter, Phoenix etc. They all have videos on how they build boats. These are very informative.

When did most bass boats go to not using wood? I just bought a 2014 Stratos. I'm assuming that wouldn't have wood in the transom.

Pretty much any fiberglass bass boat 2000-present won't have a wood transom.
Super User fishnkamp Posted July 28, 2016 Super User Posted July 28, 2016 Ranger dropped wood around 1987. I have a friend that wrote the best article I ever read about buying a used boat. Bryan (the author) is a friend of mine, has his own website, and is one of thee three best sticks I have ever met. I have been lucky to share my boat with him and learned a ton doing it. When you get done let me know what you thought. I actually saw him spit and polish his R81, sell it and go on a crazy search for his next rig and finally purchase it. It is a neat read. By the way he has had many Rangers and is a bit of a historian on them.

Super User WRB Posted July 29, 2016 Super User Posted July 29, 2016 Skeeter 175 SF 1987/88 had wood glass over transum and stringers. The reason wood transums were eliminated was dry rot. I know first hand from repairing this problem. Tom
Super User Catt Posted July 29, 2016 Super User Posted July 29, 2016 My old buddy Jack (fishfordollars) Yates did his 1988 Skeeter Starfire, it was a full top cap off restoration with complete wiring & plumbing. No wood in the transom, I know I helped him! Skeeter paid Jack to display it at tournaments. 1

E-rude dude Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Sales person telling fibs again? Tracker still uses wood decks but not in transom. Most manufacturers have ditched wood entirely. There are too many plastics, composites, fiberglass hybrids, and aluminum available.

Captain Phil Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Over the years I have watched a number of my boats being built. My Gambler was a 1998 model. The entire boat was constructed of honeycombed composite. My 2000 Skeeter had no wood. I don't believe any bass boats still use wood. Pontoon boats often use wood in the floors.
