Wacky Hooks vs EWG Texas hooks

So whenever I Texas Rig my senko I use a Gamakatsu EWG worm hook. But recently I have been wacky rigging with o-rings and I was wondering if there is a difference between using a wacky hook such as the owner wacky rig hook or if the EWG hook I am using is fine. As of right now I'm still catching a lot of bass on the EWG hook wacky rigger. It does look a little odd and big but it hasn't been failing me. Is there a specific reason to use the wacky hooks when wacky rigging? Like does using a EWG hook affect the action as compared to a wacky hook. And also is there a difference in using weedless vs non-weedless because I have heard that weedless hooks don't help much anyway.

I personally like using the hooks below, without the weed guard. I like them because the hookset is real simple, you pretty much just reel up the slack and lift the rod tip gently and they are on there good. I couldn't tell you anything in regards to the EWG affecting the action as I have been using these hooks forever, a regular gammy octopus hook works real good as well.

To be honest I used to use EWG's all the time for wacky rigging and caught fish just fine, but what I use now are these

I used to used EWGs because I was cheap, but now I use Gamakatsu splitshot/dropshot hooks and they freaking rock. Never lose fish with them. Extra-wide gap hooks aren't terrible, but their are better options.

I use an octopus hooks for simplicity & also dropshot & a couple other.  If i want them weighted i crimp an earless split shot weight to the hook shank below but against the line tie.

Kiss, i hate having single purpose tackle if its not needed.

When I first used a wacky rig, I used EWG hooks to, it worked. But It was gawdy to me, and I didn't get the action I wanted, and the bigger hook got caught in the grass.. SO....

I switched to using Owner 1/0 Wacky hooks for all my wacky worms from 4"-7". And honestly, my hook up ratio is insane. These hooks are a little pricer, but they keep fish pinned. They are sharp right out of the pack and they keep the worm on without sliding off. Seriously try these hooks, and you will not be disappointed. It's rare for me not to have 3-5 packs of these hooks in my kayak at all time.. As far as weedless vs non weedless, eh I never saw much difference and why cover up any of the hook if I don't need to. Also, I do NOT use O-rings. It makes the hook lay parallel to the worm vs perpendicular. I found this to hurt my hook up percentage. Just my .02!

 

The fish in my avatar was caught on that hook, along with probably 10 other fish that day.

Thanks for the advice! I'll try the owner wacky hooks out I heard a lot of good things about them. 

As for the O-ring, it's just that I lose way too many senkos not using them. If I don't use an o-ring its about 1 or 2 bass per senko whereas with the o-ring I get about 5-6. And I'm a pretty casual fisherman so I don't want to spend so much money especially since senkos are a bit pricey. 

Maybe I should try the 2 o-ring technique where the hook lays perpendicular to the senko?

What are your guys' opinion on owner wacky hooks 1/0? I heard they were pretty good.

And also if you do use o-rings would you say the hook-up ratio is worse because the hook runs parallel rather than perpendicular to the senko?
