Jonathan Evans Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Got a problem and I want to see if you guys can help me out here. When I am casting my fluke weightless I go with the "twitch twitch stop" style of fishing it. The problem I am having is that when I make long cast the mono seems to stretch more like a rubber band. When this happens I can still do the "twitch" but because it stretches I cannot let the line slack up to give it that natural motion. its hard to explain but in between twitches you want the line to slack so the fluke can kind of do its own thing. This problem got worse after I caught my first bass of the day and it seemed to get worse as the day went on. I am sure it caused me not to catch anymore this morning because the action is so crude when its not working right. Thanks. Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted July 24, 2016 Super User Posted July 24, 2016 What you're feeling is not line stretch, just too much slack. You're leaving yourself too much to pull through the water, and It's the water resistance on all that line that makes it feel like stretch. You don't need a much slack at all to twitch a fluke effectively. 4 Quote

I bet what I was feeling was all the extra line laying in the water that I had to deal with. Cant believe I didn't think about that. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted July 24, 2016 Super User Posted July 24, 2016 You probably did this but if not , get your rod tip lower . 1 Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted July 25, 2016 Super User Posted July 25, 2016 It wont stretch from doin that ...truth is before any line stretches which is only for a few seconds anyway it has a order it goes in ..hook penetrates rod bends drag moves then you may get some stretch. ...i love bass but they aint the strongest fish on the block. primetime Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 was it maybe spooled in reverse or maybe really old with a ton of memory? Maybe the reel, because I have never heard of a line stretching like you are describing. Maybe it melted? Does Mono Melt? Quote
Super User bigbill Posted July 25, 2016 Super User Posted July 25, 2016 What type of line do you use normally instead of mono? I do understand the rubber band mono. i switched to a coloplymer Excaliber silver thread line, less stretch. 1 Quote

I have braid on my new bait caster(local tackle shop spooled me up for free). I just bought 2 spools of fluorocarbon from Walmart on sale. one is vanish and one is seaguar Quote
