Jackall Pompadour...worth it?

I know this a very subjective matter but I'm looking for that last great bait to complete my tackle box (or I'll be outside sleeping in the boat) and have eye's on the Jackall Pompadour in the Black Bone color but dang...$20 ($25 really after shipping) for a bait is causing me great pause. I just purchased some Whopper Plopper's on sale at $14 and said that was the most expensive bait I'll ever buy but now I'd like that one last special bait and then if i can't catch bass with the arsenal i have then they just weren't meant to be caught :D.

Basically the same thing as a jitterbug. Imo no they aren't worth it. I'm also always on TT and I haven't heard much about this bait. Those guys use all the latest and greatest jdm stuff and if it was that good I'm sure they would be talking about it

The guy at TW that I spoke to the other day when I was inquiring about the Whopper Plopper said that the WP was his among his favorite top water lures with only the Pompadour rating higher in his opinion. I would just like to know from the average fisherman who has one though and not necessarily someone who is more than  likely trying to sell me one.

Pompadour has a very unique action, if you are looking for something different it would be what I would choose.  I have fished the ones I have a few times and have had some missed strikes and few fish in the 2-3 lb range.

I like jackal a lot but still haven't pulled the trigger on those, doubt I ever will. I'm sure they're great but over 20 bucks for anything besides a swimbait is a no-no for me. Especially a nice snack size thing like the pompadour that could fit deep into a toothy critters' throat.

My mistake I meant to say the Hudson crazy crawler and not the jitterbug. I'm not saying the bait won't catch fish, just that you can buy the same thing for less money

I think you meant Heddon. Anyway I just googled the Heddon Crazy Crawler and can't believe how similar it is to the Pompadour. Well, similar enough that I'm not sure the Pompadour is worth the extra $$$.

Sorry the spell check on my phone got me and I didn't catch that lol. The crazy crawler is basically the same bait. The jack all probably has better hooks but you could put owner stingers or other hooks of your choice and still buy 2 for the price of one Pompadour. The only difference I see is the addition of a small spinner to the rear trouble, but the crazy crawler makes plenty of commotion.

You definitely need at least one.  I can't think of another topwater bait that even comes close to the Pompadour.  I'm really surprised you've caught any fish this summer without one.

I would buy a Heddon Crazy Crawler instead....Great big fish topwater lure, great at night....For some reason people rarely talk about it, but the Crazy crawler is a good lure that I used to use all the time when I was younger....

With all the weeds in Florida, and for some reason I put it in the "Night box only" I rarely use it anymore. I caught most of my bigger Bass on Long Island at night growing up on the Crazy Crawler, less strikes than other lures, but it always seemed to produce larger fish in general.

Personally I would not pay for the Jackall lure, but I am sure it works well, and is quality made....Not sure a blade is worth an extra $20 bill since the lures are very similar from what I remember.

They're a solid bait, much louder than the Crazy Crawler and they move through the water easier. I'd suggest getting the larger version over the smaller one. It's a noisy, obnoxious bait that I think really benefits from having the extra bulk of the bigger bait for added drawing power.

I wonder if you could just screw in a ring with a prop on it like from a torpedo into the butt end of a crazy crawler so you'd have the prop action as well as the wing action like the Pompadour?

It's still going to be a much slower moving bait that rocks farther side to side than a Pompadour. I think you'll have a hard time getting the tail end of a CC down into the water far enough to spin a prop as well since they sit fairly high.

They are pretty good. Don't be afraid to splurge a little more on a top water than you would normally on other baits. It's pretty hard to lose top waters so you could potentially have that bait for life.

I know some people pay high prices for lures like crazy crawlers since buyers advertise them as Vintage etc..

Pradco has them on their site under Heddon for $5.99 and BPS carries them for roughly the same price. I have seen Crazy crawlers on Ebay sellling for 4-5x the price, but I would imagine the Jackall lure is fun to fish, Topwater lures are always my favorite to buy and spend more money on, and I would buy the Jackall Version but I know I would never use it, I have way too many "Favorite Topwater lures"

I really like the Jackall walking bait they sell, I forget the name, it is similar to all the others but has a unique knock to it. It was priced on TW for $10 or so and it is top quality for sure. Jackall reminds me of R2Sea as they come up with alot of cool designs, some just never catch on or work like they are supposed to, but I love the ideas behind many of their lures.

The Jockie Minnow is a High Tech Version of the Norman Slap Stick and looks much nicer, but the Slap Stick is hard to beat when fish are schooling or super aggressive, but for the price the Jockie Minnow would probably be better in clear water since they do a good job with color and detail imo. Jackall that is.

Has anyone used either for smallies? I have had some success with top waters on a river system, and would think the extra noise these things make would make them easier to find in a loud river environment. 

I will say the unmatched in originality line in the first sentence of the Jackall baits description on TW cracks me up when it is clearly a new spin of a classic bait.

The original wooden Crazy Crawler musky size is a fairly good lure but doesn't compare to standard size Pompadour in quality, hooks, durability. The action of a Crazy Crawler has a wider wobble and doesn't cast nearly as well as the Pompadour. Best Pompadour bass to date is 8+ lbs, it's a big bass lure.

I use a Pompadour in lieu of a buzz bait most of the time now because it cast 2X the distance and generates more strikes to hook up ratio.
