contium Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Perris isn't drying up. It's been at a constant level for a while now. It is low because of dam construction. How about Skinner, Pyramid, Castaic, Casitas? Plenty of good lakes in San Diego. Most lakes in SoCal are small and highly pressured. Wide open bass fishing isn't a regular occurance (at least for me). Not sure what the current status of all these are but hear is a list of the major lakes. Big Bear Lake Castaic Lake Cuyamaca Diamond Valley Dixon El Capitan Guajome Henshaw Hodges Jennings Lake Casitas Lake Elsinore Lake Perris Lake Piru Lake Silverwood Lake Skinner Loveland Lower Otay Miramar Morena Murray Poway Puddingstone Pyramid Ramona San Vicente Santee Lakes Sutherland Sweetwater Upper Otay Wohlford Quote
Shakes4000 Posted July 20, 2016 Author Posted July 20, 2016 I was thinkn with in an hour of diamond bar, Ca. I know about those lakes but southern california besides the ones i mentioned are horrible. Might go see about perris though. Quote
contium Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 Yeah I'm in Chino Hills. I drove to Hodges a couple of weeks ago and it was a nightmare traffic wise. And its the closest of the San Diego lakes to us. Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 21, 2016 Super User Posted July 21, 2016 Trying to understand the title of this thread? California only stocks bass in lakes 1 time, then they are on thier own. Irvine lake closed due to no concessionaire. Vail lake closed due to a law suit. Laguna Nigeul lake is your best bet from shore within 1 hour from Chino Hills. DVL, Skinner, Perris are good bass lakes, just need to learn how to fish them. Drive 2 to 3 hours north lakes, Castaic is filling, Pyramid is full and Casitas is low but good bass fishing. Summer world class sport fishing is at your door step, coastal ocean fishing. Tom Quote
OCdockskipper Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 1 hour ago, WRB said: Irvine lake closed due to no concessionaire. For the record, Irvine Lake closed due to insurance issues, which prompted the city to not renew the concessionaire. A couple of incidents with litigious folks overloading their boats & then drowning when they sank said boats first caused a ban on boating followed shortly thereafter a ban on fishing overall. The liability exposure of the city exceeded what they could make from a concessionaire. Back to the topic at hand, I have a few recommendations. First would be to go through the people you know to determine if anyone lives where they have access to a private lake. Canyon Lake is the largest, but there are multiple smaller development lakes in the area that offer good fishing. You'd be surprised at how many people who live on or have access to these lakes are often looking for a fishing partner, especially someone who provides good company. There are also other folks who live there who don't fish, but are happy to see someone they know get use out of it. Another option is golf course ponds. Again, it will probably take some legwork and salesmanship on your part to get access, but you can't G-E-T if you don't A-S-K. You may have to offer your time doing something that benefits the course in exchange for access and agree to access only at times the golfers aren't on the course or near those holes. These can be a lot of fun when you are there legitimately and don't have to constantly be looking over your shoulder for the course marshal. Get creative & you may find your own honey hole. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted July 27, 2016 Super User Posted July 27, 2016 d**n liberal water utility managers. They need to lose their rule by decree power over our waters. Jerks. Quote
lecisnith Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 I don't understand the insult. Aren't the majority of those lakes man-made? Aren't they located in an extraordinarily arid region? I'm actually asking because I have no experience in the area. But if that is the case wouldn't it stand to reason that they would eventually dry up? Quote
