My 130 in Loon came in the mail yesterday. Took it to a close trolling motor only lake that I rarely fish because I usually just catch shorts, but wanted to try it out.

I've seen the videos....I know it'll produce..in the right situations but here's my take after about two hours.

Weedy lakes with a lot of overhanging trees are not a good place to throw this.  It is not a weedless bait. Plus the price, for me, is enough to keep me from throwing it in places where I throw a buzz bait. 

I didn't get one blow up..fishing it exclusively for two hours around sunset. Straight retrieve..stop and go..didn't matter. I caught a few dinks earlier on the drop shot at the dam...but that was it. Again, this is a small fish lake with the occasional 2-3lber, probably needed a 90 here. I love the sound and the wake it puts off. At my normal lakes with bigger fish in a little more open water, I think it might be a producer.

I use the Loon color. 

Like mentioned above it's terrible in places with emergent (surface reaching) grasses or weeds, it's definitely not weedless. 

I've had a good bit of luck with it this year, probably fishing it a bit more than I should. I find it's best use is for fishing over the top of submerged grass - say a foot or two under the water. The fish seem to be holding there and dart up and hit the top when an opportunity arises. Also it seems to be good when paralleling rip rap. But hey, I've also had some open water blowups. Just fish it in a lot of areas and you'll find out where your best success will come from. It's a killer lure - weird looking - but I've had some incredible outings with it. Now if only they figured out how to make a weedless version......

I use the 90 size in Loon, but I'm fishing a small river and usually throw it on a Medium casting rod. You have to keep your rod tip high or it spins in the water. I do a straight retrieve fairly slow. You can tell by the sound of the plop when you are doing it right. Most of my hits come in slack water immediately below riffles in 1'-3' of water.

i like the 90, ive had  much better results on it then the 130. i only own 130 and a few colors of the 90. smallies love the 90

I recently got a 130 in the chubby color. I have only taken a few casts with it in a lake I had only fished once before. I really like the action and can't wait for some monster bass to blowup on it.

I use the trout color 130. Great lure.

I like the 130 in shad color. 

I actually like to fish mine around emergent grass. It's a pain because it gets clogged with grass a lot, but it calls out some vicious strikes too. I've had way better luck with it for smallmouth than largemouth.

I've got the 90 in yellow head and throw it on spinning gear with 8 pound test line. On every single fish I've caught, I've had to use the pliers to undo the bottom treble from the belly of the fish.

I've only caught a handful of dinks and a large bluegill with it but the blowups keep it fun so far. I also have to keep the rod tip high or the tail won't spin and sometimes it runs subsurface.

Got a black one 130 in my MTB last month.

 

Caught my PB fishing it at night on a golf course and 11 other decent ones within 2hrs.

I fished the black 90 yesterday for the first time. I did catch fish ( largest was 4lbs ). But, I had to use it like a popper. I only had one small fish chase it on a steady retrieve. I could have accomplished the same thing on a much cheaper popper. Not impressed.

I don't get excited over many things non-swimbait related. The plopper would be one that got me giggidy giggidy.

That's how I fish my 90 Perch. It gets gobbled up.  My 190 loon for the big toothy guys I usually retrieve straight on or a speed burst....sit....speed burst, twitch..sit. Something like that.  The 190 makes pretty good racket

130 in the perch color has been good to me, I also bought a 130 in the Loon color recently but haven't been able to try it out yet.

Its my favorite new (to me) lure. I got it in Bumblebee which is Loon but with yellow instead of white. Would've goon Loon if the store I shop at had any left. I tried it out for the first time the other day and got two nice ones on it. I did get a fair bit of weeds on it, but found with a sharp snap of the rod it can dislodge or cut any weeds it picks up. 

I want to get one in white with a red or orange belly.

You're right because everyone knows the spook never works, guess the fish have just seen it too much

You're giving fish way too much credit. The rear prop baits have been around a lot longer than when the Whopper Plopper debuted.  Same would be said for a senko, a jig, spinner bait, a frog, a craw....all have been used for decades and more.

So popping the 90 is a good idea. Otherwise I'm in the not-impressed-with-the-straight-retrieve camp.

Was able to get out last night until about 2AM...I fished the WP again for about an hour...had 3 blow ups but only connected once... in the 4lb range , shook off half way to the boat. Jury is still out for me. All of my keepers were on the good old T-Rig....

I have the 130 size "whopper" plopper.  I have only had it for a couple weeks and so far I have been very impressed, and not just for big ones.  I have found that it actually catches more numbers than a regular buzzbait, while still getting some good sized fish mixed in.  Since getting it has almost completely replaced Buzzbaits spot for me, in conditions where I would pick up a buzzbait I instead grab the whopper plopper.  I use it on a 6'8" medium heavy power, moderate fast action rod spooled with monofiliment line.  Usually the fish want a slow and straight retrieve, and since it floats I like to stop it next to cover like dock posts.  It also has a much higher hooking percentage than Buzzbaits, for me it is in the 90% range.
