Going on vacation in Colorado and want to try trout fishing since there is no bass pins around where we will be. I have spent a lot of money on tackle recently and don't want to spend a lot so the cheaper the better but still want a decent reel. Thanks

What type of lures are we talking about throwing and what weight. If we are talking about lure like Mepps spinners than you want a lite or medium lite rod and maybe a size 20 reel. Look at Dick Sporting goods online then you can go to the store if you have one nearby. Look at a couple of combos. I think a 6 foot Medium Light Trion from Pflueger or a Mitchel 300 combo.  Mitchell had a 7 foot 2 piece light action combo and also a 7 foot medium combo.  Match it up with some 6 pound mono or copolymer line. Either one can be had for around $70  Cabelas has very similar combos as well This will work for split shot and live bait rigs as well.  If you are going to need heavier weight to stay down in faster current than go to the same combos and a Medium rod.

Pfluger's Trion or President spinning combos are both EXCELLENT... I had the 6'6M President Combo (bought at StuffMart) and I still think it's the most sensitive spinning rod I've used.  People will poo-poo that, but I'm for reelz.

EDIT:  The bonus here is that, even if you outgrow the rod, the reel is a very solid performer.

Here is what i would do, especially if flying to your destination. When you get there go to Wal-mart or a similar place, buy a cheap 20 dollar combo and use that for trout, when youre done give it to a local kid. You avoid having to travel with a rod/reel, and you make some lucky kids day...

Not flying but wish I would've saw this earlier and would have done that. Always good to pass on. I have several *** bait casters and they are excellent. I contacted the company to see if I could buy a combo at a discounted price and we made a deal even though I had to spend more than I wanted. Highly recommend checking them. Cast a mile smoothe and their customer service is amazing.
