So I picked up a GoPro knock off today and so far I'm pretty impressed. It was used but in new condition. He had a bunch of videos on the card from snow mobiliing and dirt bike racing.

Anyways I have it now for kayak fishing but have no idea how to edit and make videos. Is there a program I need for my lap top to make videos? My lap top is old also at least 8years but Windows 10 downloaded itself on it a while ago so it has the newest version.

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I just use the basic editor on Youtube. I'm not trying to start a big Youtube channel, I just enjoy being able to go back over my trips and share my experiences with others, so it's good enough for me.

Go Pro has their own video editing program that's free to download. I'm not sure about it's compatibility with a non-Go Pro video however.

Windows movie maker isn't a great program, but it lets you do the basics and is pretty easy to use.

Being that your laptop is "dated", it may or may not have enough performance to edit smoothly. If you find that you're getting really choppy playback or a lot of lag in editing you may want to invest in a new PC at some point.  The alternative is to shoot video at lower quality and framerate. I had the same issue when I picked up my GoPro a few years back and editing was so discouraging that I had to buy a new PC.  Once you get it though, it's a lot of fun.  Enjoy.
