Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Well guys, I'm sorry to say, the stuff just didn't fare well. Many of you are familiar with the restore job I did on a '64 jon boat this summer. For those of you not familiar, this is the link to the post. http://bassresource.com/cgi-bin/bass_fish/YaBB.pl?board=boating_ID;action=display;num=1119359773;start=0#0 Now, I know that when bass tech did their boat, they used rhino lining on the inside of the boat as a sealer. Great idea. bad part-weight. What I did was different and uneffective. Keep in mind that this boat was done before the airring of bass tech. We have to drag our boats over a road edge and then some rip rap before it's in the water so I wanted to protect the bottom of the boat and tried using herculiner to do it. It didn't work. It scraped off of the "v" channels on the bottom within a month and is now actually peeling off the bottom in other places where it doesn't even get touched. I would like to think it's water related because the motor mount and footrests I also did are rock solid but are never submerged like the bottom. I know this suggests improper prep work on the bottom but I can assure you that proper prep work is my specialty. *in short I'll say that if the boat has leaks everywhere, sure, go ahead and apply but if there are one or two leaks, fix them independantly. The weight increase is not worth it. As a bottom paint application like I tried, I say avoid it. Not only did it not last but the boat was heavier and even slower due to the drag created by having that rough under-surface. Quote
Yankee_Bassman Posted October 24, 2005 Posted October 24, 2005 Sorry it isn't working out, it certainly looked sharp. I know it's frustrating to do that much prep and finish and have it not stand up to normal use. Sounds like you don't think it would have made much difference if you were loading/unloading off a trailer...... I saw the Bass Tech show, and wondered about the weight. My friend has a Line-X liner in his pick-up which seems to be the same as Rhino, only not quite as abrasive, and it's pretty thick. Quote
