Holden.C Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Hey guys, I'm venturing out to a new pond this Sunday and I'm looking for any bait and presentation suggestions. The pond is about 150 yards long and probably 35-45 yards across, there's a shallow cove (12-18 inches deep) on the opposite side of the dam, which I saw blue gill bedding in. The deepest point is close to 20 feet deep and the water clarity is about 4-5 feet. There's is also thick lily pads that extend about 10-15 yards offshore. This pond is also natural and stream fed if that helps any. Thanks in advance! -Holden Quote
Evan K Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 A new pond is always fun! I would try a frog over those pads, and a shaky head with some type of worm or stick bait in the deep part. Spinnerbaits are a great new pond bait as well. If they're not biting your frog on the surface try throwing a texas rigged plastic down in there, a ribbontail worm or a beaver/craw/creature bait. Good luck! 1 Quote
HunkerDown Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 A good place to start may also be where the stream feeds into the lake. There should be a lot of oxygen in the water there, which will attract fish, especially in the summer. Quote
Ty62 Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 I would start with topwater in the morning then once it heats up switch to a lipless crankbait or a wacky rig. Quote
Holden.C Posted July 16, 2016 Author Posted July 16, 2016 I'll also be fishing this pond from 6 pm to 9 pm. 1 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted July 16, 2016 Super User Posted July 16, 2016 I'd throw a weightless Trick Worm a little. A couple hours before dark, I'd throw every topwater I own until it's too dark to see. Especially the frog, Spook & Chug Bug. Quote
RMcDuffee726 Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 What I will always throw is a 3/8th ounce jig, T-Rigged Rage Craw, and also a wacky rigged worm. If there is bass, they will hit one of the these technqiues. Always a safe bet. 1 Quote
Holden.C Posted July 18, 2016 Author Posted July 18, 2016 Fishing went well! Caught 9 bass 2-4 pound range off a wacky rigged senko. Another 6 bass 1.5 -3.5 pounds off a frog. Then another 5 bass 2-5 pounds off of a black and blue chatterbait. Quote
