Eric Czerwinski Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 Just wondering if anyone is a big Subaru enthusiast on here. I am a HUGE Subaru fan and am also a Subaru Ambassador. Any questions please feel free to ask Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 14, 2016 Super User Posted July 14, 2016 2008 Forester with over 260,000 miles. Any idea where I can get a new FOB without paying $150+ at a dealer? Thanks. Quote

thebillsman Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 I have a 2005 Saabaru that's got a good amount of work done to it. I don't get to drive it as much as I used to since I purchased a new Z71 Silverado but its a hard car not to like. Never had an easy day and ate it up. 1 Quote

Have you tried a locksmith specializing in automotive work? I'm a locksmith but the auto game was too much to keep up with. Made a choice to stick to the commercial/access control side of things. Shop around with a few, they are usually less expensive than the dealer and sometimes you can haggle for a better price! 1 Quote
dave Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 I drive a 2014 Forrester for work. Not sure if I'm "into them" but, I like this one just fine. I had to try my best to get stuck in the snow and it was after it was 18" high, packed and hard before I got stuck. Regular driving in the snow is excellent. My dad has an Outback. I'd love to know the technical difference as I like the way the Outback looks better than my Forrester. Quote

My daughter had a Mitsubishi Gallant that we needed a FOB for and it was the same deal. $150+ at a dealer. None of the locksmiths in our rural area would even talk to us and the dealership was almost as bad. That is a nice little racket they have on those FOBs. As for a Subaru ... Na I haven't a use for a pork n bean can on wheels. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted July 14, 2016 Super User Posted July 14, 2016 I had a 2001 outback limited...until the motor blew apart while going 75 on the highway......I'll stick to my Jeeps. 1 Quote

Super User fishwizzard Posted July 15, 2016 Super User Posted July 15, 2016 My GF is way into them and is currently limping an 00 Forester along, she likes it so much I don't know what it will take to get her to give it up. She could likely afford a newer one but they are all "too fat, tall, and round", which I kind of agree with. The body style on hers is about the perfect kayak fishing vehicle too, a long, low roof, plenty of storage inside, can fit 7'+ rods no problem, and just off road capable enough to deal with a slick and muddy launch spot. 1 Quote
desmobob Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 I drive an '09 Forester (with less than 50K miles on her!). Functionally, I think it's the best vehicle I've owned. It goes better in the snow than my Dodge or Chevy 4x4 trucks did. It hauls my kayak and canoes, fits long fishing rods, and tows my Bass Tracker Pro170 to the launch every fishing day. My only problem to date is loud rattling heat shields on the exhaust system. Until it gets warmed up, it sounds like a pile of junk! It's getting worse, so I got under the car and took a look... the heat shields on the catalytic converters are all looking in perfect shape with no loose or missing bolts, etc., but I can feel that they rattle a bit. I don't want to take it to the stealership. Is there anything I can do to alleviate the nasty noise? Tight lines, Bob 1 Quote

If your outer shields are good and it sounds like a 6-pack in a dryer, it could be the inside to your catalytic converter too- also an easy fix for somebody who wants to get you fixed up and back on the road. 2 Quote
Cmiller Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 I sell Subarus for a living, they make awesome vehicles. I had a 2005 legacy gt, it was my favorite vehicle I have ever had, I had to sell it to buy my current truck, it was a sad day. X2 The rivets on the shields get lose after heating and cooling over time. A couple big metal ties will usually fix it. 1 Quote

Super User N Florida Mike Posted August 4, 2016 Super User Posted August 4, 2016 My wife had their little wagon from the late 80s.She loved it.Had 3 wrecks with it( none were her fault) and walked away from them all,if I remember correctly without a scratch. She could compete with me in the mud with my truck cause it was so light.but I had her on the ground clearance. I love their commercial when the daughter keeps growing up when they show her in various stages of life with the car as she's getting older. And that song is so...haunting.Makes you wonder where time has gone. 1 Quote

Crash safety is one thing a lot of people overlook when car shopping. I like the fact that every model Subaru makes has the highest NHTSA safety rating. Tight lines, Bob Quote
