Low_Budget_Hooker Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 I've recieved 3 emails asking how to make the floors that are in my jon boat. I just want to post it here so I can reply by sending link (easier) and so anyone else who might be interested, can look. ***************************************** make cardboard template of floor area. (basically to mark where ribs are) trace to 3/8 cdx plywood Cut plywood on INSIDE if line(leaves 1/8 in for carpet to roll over edge) coat in polyurethane or resin, let dry Lay carpet on ground and lay board on it upside down. With marker, mark where corners are(just a rough idea of size for gluing) lift board and spray wood and carpet(not too far outside of corner marks) with 3m 99 spray adhesive. Let sit apart for 1 minute and then lay board back down on carpet aligning w/ corner marks. Trim carpet 2 inches away from board all around. pull over and staple (stainless steel staples only) Flip it, lay it in boat and do next one. They just lay in boat. works great, removable for cleaning and winter storage too. Make sure when aligning carpet with boards that carpet pattern has been given some thought. Mine is lines and they all run side to side. Questions? shoot Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted August 12, 2005 Author Posted August 12, 2005 standard outdoor short-pile. It has a rubber backing. Go to any carpet store and tell them what you want it for and they'll show you. Only 1 store (GCO) carries it around here. Actually, they all carry it but only 1 keeps it in stock. You may have to order it. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted August 13, 2005 Super User Posted August 13, 2005 Yea it works great. That's what I did with my boat. It keeps things cool on hot days, and cuts down on noise. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted August 13, 2005 Author Posted August 13, 2005 3 greatest advantages -sound reduction -flat floor, no ribs to trip on -all boats get a bit a water in them from the fish you bring in or the anchor, etc. Floors keep your gear out of the puddle. Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 LBH,that's exactly what I did with my 3 previous aluminum boats. It looks great, dampens unwanted sound, and you can stand and fish very comfortably. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted August 21, 2005 Super User Posted August 21, 2005 This winter I am going to redo my floors. I was thinking of putting in a little rubber padding between the wood and the carpet. This might help the bad back. Quote
Grumpyless Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 I friend of mine used 3/4" gray ABS plastic with a rough texture on the top side. He saild it was cheaper than wood and the company even cut it to his measurements. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted October 13, 2005 Author Posted October 13, 2005 sounds like another alternative. Is is lighter, heavier, about the same? The only thing is I like the way the cxarpet also dulls alot of the noise in the old tin can. Quote
