trick worms Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 How bad is big games memory? How long can you use it before you need to change it out? Quote
S. Sass Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 My experience is on a baitcaster and I don't have a issue with memory. It's so inexpensive I will respool all my reels before the heavy fishing of spring each year. I would think if it was a heavy line like a 20+ lb test memory could be worse but I only use 12lb and it works pretty much for a season kept indoors when not in use. Again it's such a inexpensive line it's not a issue if you wanted to change it say 2 or 3 times a year. Sometimes mine gets changed when I feel like it has taken a beating more than normal. I recommend it as it is a very good mono especially for the $. 4 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 13, 2016 Super User Posted July 13, 2016 Berkley Trilene Big Game Line mono 15lb TW gets 900 yds for $9 or $1.00 per 100 yds If you by 1lb or 3lb bulk spools it's often even more cost effective. In comparison Seaguar InvizX Fluorocarbon Line 15lb - 200yds $ 25 or $ $12.50 per 100 yds Useing 2 shots of KVD line & lure conditioner before each trip helps all mono out. Best bet is to Change out the top shot BEFORE you think you need to - for $0.50 cents (or less) it's a good piece of mind. A-Jay 6 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 13, 2016 Super User Posted July 13, 2016 A little memory isn't a bad thing. Without it, your line would spring off the spool. The more you fish with it, the less memory is an issue. 3 Quote
trick worms Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 Thanks. How long before y'all change out big game. I don't fish tournaments so it won't be before every tournament Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 13, 2016 Super User Posted July 13, 2016 Depends on how much use and how much exposure to the sun. Once a month down to a couple times a season, depending. Quote
tstraub Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 I use 10-15# big game on most of my casting gear it does cast like a skinny on the first cast or two but once it's wet it softens up and handles very well. I change it every spring and never had any problems doing it that way. My gear is stored in a non temperature controlled environment all week long. Then left outside on the boat or leaning against the camper under an awning so some shade and protection from rain but not much for the weekend. It still seems to hold up all season for me. Quote

Super User Catt Posted July 14, 2016 Super User Posted July 14, 2016 I fish 6-8 times a month so I change line every other trip, sometimes every third trip if I anit fished heavy cover. I've found the more often I fish the less "coil" Big Game has & the longer it sets the more "coil". 3 Quote
BiteFiend Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 I can't speak for anything over 20 lb Big Game, but I use 12 lb and 20 lb and don't have any problems with excessive memory. I don't think the line memory of Big Game is any better or worse than other brands. I do use KVD line conditioner the night before I go though, which makes a difference IMO. Any more, I change out the line every 2-3 months because I only get to fish once a week for the most part. When I fished more, it was once every month or two. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 16, 2016 Global Moderator Posted July 16, 2016 I change my reels with Big Game about once a month during the summer. It's so cheap I can't see risking losing a fish over trying to save a dollar or two. 1 Quote
IgotWood Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 When I fished with mono, I changed my line several times throughout the year. The UV sunlight breaks down the material. I'm sure it doesn't happen very fast...but since it is so cheap to buy, I would replace it as is wore, it seemed to become even more stiff, and brittle. Quote
trick worms Posted July 16, 2016 Author Posted July 16, 2016 Thanks, I was just worried that the memory would be really bad since I don't think it's made for bass fishing Quote
S. Sass Posted July 16, 2016 Posted July 16, 2016 Big Game ... Bass fishing Looks close enough for me Just curious what exactly do you think it was made for? Quote

I don't know I just assumed since it comes in such high pound tests it's made for bigger fish but I must be wrong Quote

Super User lmbfisherman Posted July 17, 2016 Super User Posted July 17, 2016 I replace every season. Unless I barely used that reel at all the previous season. Quote
