It's almost the middle of the summer the heat has the weeds in full bloom. Don't let them choke you out. When I first seen how thick the weeds could be I almost gave up till next spring. Then I searched BPS & Cabelas for weedless baits. Here a few of my favorites,

Mister Twister Top Prop.

presentation, 1-2-3 pause, slow reel, longer pause.

Mepps Timber Doodle.

let it fall in the open weed pockets. Repeat.

Weedless Plastics,

worms, creature baits either split shot rig or Carolina rig, drop shot. Or just a plain worm weedless hooked.

Crankbaits.

pause over open weed pockets and twitch it so it rattles. Just enough so it stays in the open pocket. This is a great tactic over submerged weeds.

what are your tactics for weeds?

My favorites are a frog, punching, swim baits, various texas rigged soft plastics, as well as a spinnerbait or swim jig around the edges and occasionally a square bill if the taper allows it.

Weightless Texas rigs but the bait has to be heavy enough to cast  and the hook has to be strong enough to pull in a large bass and several  lbs of weeds .

We in the dog days of summer so I'm thinking nighttime, low, & slow!

I fish Texas rigs all the time. It's one of my favorite ways to fish. So not much changes for me maybe a little less cranking and add more Texas rigging in that time slot.

Generally as Catt said slow down.

I like a johnson silver spoon with a white trick worm for a trailer.

Swim Jigs, Swimming worms, Frogs and toads, Snagless sally rigged with a texas rigged 4" curly tail swimbait over the weeds, I try to use weedless spoons but I just can't get the results I used to get fishing the Jawbreaker or Silver Minnow.

Hollow bellies are my first choice as well as buzz worms/toads, texas rigs, but Swim Jigs or bullet style jigs are my favorite since I can swim it, deflect it, change trailer for profile, and easily change colors.

I also like to use a punch rig in heavy cover, skirt if looking for bigger bites, but lately I really like a heavy weight and small bait which seems to help my hook up ratio and get more strikes.

I barely go during the day anymore unless a storm is coming. I can't take the heat, but my favorite technique in Summer is fishing a Floating Rip bait like a Bagley Bang O lure, Long A, Red Fin, Rapala minnow over the grass instead of a fluke. I paint the tops of a red fin pink so I can see it from far away, same with a long a so I can steer it around grass, I feel bigger fish strike Hardbaits on most days but you get less strikes than on a fluke or soft bait.

Unless the weeds are matted, a Zoom UltraVibe Speed Worm or a Stanley Ribbit Frog buzzed over the weeds and allowed to drop into openings are my favs.  In all but the thickest weeds, I like a creature tube rigged weedless with a heavy internal weight.
