TC1 Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 New to the board and soon to be proud Owner of my fist Bassboat. What do U Guys with Bassboats use for tackle boxes? My boat is 17.5' and has 2-7' rod storage compartments and 1 square storage compartment on the bow. I currently have a large "bulky" tackle bag and a worm binder that ive been using. Any idea's are appreciated. Quote
Guest argyll Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 I use Plano 3700 and 3600 size. They fit the hole I made for them on the boat. Quote
Rebbasser Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 I keep soft plastics in individual binders-worms, lizards, flukes, etc-in one of the rod boxes and 3600s in the square storage. In the other rod box I made a rod box organizer using a plastic cutting board and the tubes used in golf bags-keeps the rods from tangling and really works well. Quote
Ben Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 I use the plastic orgnizers (bunches of them) in different sizes and thickness. I use the individuals plastic pouches that goes in worm organizer for my plastics (probably 30 pounds of them). My boat has two livewells in the back, I plugged off one and disconnected the pumps and us that for my plastics storage. It has one large storage compartment behind the drivers seat, I use that for most of my organizers. I think it holds about 15. I also have a very large storage box in center of the bow, life jackets, ropes, black lights, rain gear, extra line, wind breakers, sweat shirts and a few organizers are kept in that one. It also has a large storage compartment on the starboard side of the front center box, I keep a camera, TP, food (crackers, potted meat, Vienna Sausage, beanee Weenie's etc) , paper towels fire starters and other junk. Under the drives and passenger seat I keep tools, parts, marker bouyes, flash lights, spot light, air horn, tape, fuses, spare sunglasses and hats. As for the rod locker, I keep too many in the boat for an organizer, there's usually 10 - 15 in it at all times. I take the lures off, tie the line in the bottom rod eye, in about the center I then hold that line out while I spin the rod a couple of time to wrap it around the rod and then hook it over a middle eye. Never have a problem with rods getting tangled. Makes you wonder how the boat even floats much less run as fast as it does. I also have several shelves in the garage for oranizers with seasonal baits so I just swap out different ones in the boat. Quote
TC1 Posted September 15, 2005 Author Posted September 15, 2005 All great idea's..thanks Guys for your responses. Quote
Hans Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 My boat is the same size and locker layout as yours. May be the same boat. Anyway, in the rod lockers, my boat has aluminum stringers running the length of the lid. I took some medium paper clamps and screwed them to that stringer. I can hang bags of plastics from the clamps and they are out of the way. I did this on both sides and can store about 30 bags in total. I also pack the center locker with standard boat stuff, but try to keep it as deep in the locker as I can. Towards the front part, I made up kits in 3700 boxes. One is a worm kit and in it are all the items needed for rigging worms, another is a jig kit and another is a tube kit, but you get the point. I only need to take out the one box and I have everything I need to rig that type bait. Weights, hooks, and the baits themselves. This keeps the front deck clear of all the tackle boxes that used to be laying around before I started making up the kits. I stand them up and write what box has what on a label so I can grab what I need without searching around, plus upright, I can get more boxes in a smaller space. You will find what works best for you over time. Hans Quote
DDbasser Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 Mine is still an ongoing project. I have a real nice rod locker that has individual slots with plastic tubes for each rod it will hold 10 rods plus I have some more laying in the bottom of that locker. I have a big square storage compartment in the middle of the bow thats where most of my tackle stays. I have a medium sized tackle bag that holds 4 plano 3600 boxes one is full of crankbaits, one has topwaters, one has jigs and the other is full of terminal tackle weights, hooks, etc. Then I have 2 plano spinnerbait boxes one for regular spinnerbaits and one for buzzbaits. I use a small tackle bag with the boxes removed to store all my plastics in. As I collect more tackle I'm finding that I must adapt my system. Now where did I store those new crankbaits??? Quote
Grumpy413 Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 Here is what I use. http://www.easyviewtackle.com/ Quote
DDbasser Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Here is what I use. Do the adhesive strips stick really well? or do you use the screws? Also, in the summer does it get hot enough in the storage compartments to melt any of your plastics? I really like the looks of that system, I'd like to install one for my plastics. Quote
TC1 Posted September 18, 2005 Author Posted September 18, 2005 Im with You DD...However im having a hard time with the idea of using screws in my brand new rig. Quote
Yankee_Bassman Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 I'd like to hang plastics too, but am skeptical about how well the adhesive will stick to old dirty carpet in a 10 year old boat.....the compartment lids are aluminum, and I'm not crazy about bolting thru the tops......if it works, it looks like a great system, though.... texasbass1 Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Cook's tackle system works great for both bags and wire baits. For tackleboxes I bought a couple of those Keter tackleboxes (they hold 4 3700 size boxes in an open carry case) they work great. I got them at WalMart. Of course I have added about 4 more boxes since I started so I need some more. Quote
kbj3579 Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 That "Easy View Tackle System" looks great. Here comes the monkey again. LOL Quote
