Word is and don't hold me to it but rumor on the pro page floating around is $1800 for the perception pilot and $2600 for the radar with ruder and pedal drive.  $1700 for the ATAK 120. 

 

Again this isn't solid but it's been the most consistent "rumor" even to us Prostaff guys. 

 

 

Im contemplating selling my ATAK 140 for the radar 135 and a ATAK 120 for the creeks and rivers I hit.

Wow! This is some awesome equipment coming out on the market this year. Kayak fishing has evolved into something I could not even imagine when I first walked into a Hudson Trail Outfitters way back in 1991 (and left with a 10' Perception Aquaterra kayak in the bed of my pickup). Good stuff!

Interesting! I was almost settled on getting a Hobie Pro Angler 14. But if there is something more affordable around that does basically the same thing, I am listening!

Any links to the yak with the paddle drive out yet?

Freelancer from what I gathered the prices of the yak didn't include the drive. The drive alone is $1000 msrp. So if the kayak is $1300 I doubt the drive is included. Either way I would wait if you can. I loved wilderness kayaks but hurt my shoulder and use hobies now. Now that there are more options I would have a more difficult decision. If the pro angler is too expensive the outback is a great option. I went from the PA14 to the outback and couldn't be happier.  Now that wilderness has these new yaks I would have a hard decision to make.

I love the PA14, because of its storage, standing abilities and durability. The mirage drive is nice as well. Since I want to use the Kayak mainly for fishing (and I love the higher seat of the PA14).

Why did you switch from the PA to the Outback?

I loaded the PA14 down. Brought to much stuff. It was hard to maneuver through the trees. Had trouble loading it by myself. Didn't feel like I needed to stand. The PA14 is a great kayak and sometimes I wonder if I should have kept it, but I don't have any complaints about the outback. I got mine with the square hatch, I really like it. Lots of options now, good luck.

they apparently are showing a Mirage drive at iCast that can be toggled to do reverse  ...   for what it is worth, what am I "hearing" is that these new generation of kayaks with pedal drives will smoke a Mirage drive kayak in the speed test

Where did you hear that? I like the durability of the Hobie PAs and Outback. Though if there is something around the corner that is lighter and more affordable. I would be very open to it!

about the speed issue, this is just scuttlebutt I am reading on Facebook from people at the iCast show

I saw the reverse deal on the hobie mirage drive and to me, it is purely there to say they have the capability.  I would see myself needing reverse when fighting a fish and the last thing i would want to do is drop a hand to pull a wire to reverse the drive.

The ATAK 120 is looking good and if i could sell my 140 for the price of a new 120 i just might do it.....the radar is nice as well.

I agree with the concern here. What other kayaks on the market offer any pedal capabilities that would compete with the mirage drive?

well now pretty much every one of the big players except jackson.  Wildy, Native, feel free and perception all have pedal drives.

With the wildy boats and others besides hobies you just pedal backwards and your going in reverse no reaching down to pull a lever that spins the fins on the hobies backwards. Also if I'm not mistaken hobies need 18" of water to work. With the helix pedal drive in our boats they slide up and out the way so there is no draft or very little depending on how far up and out you move the drive. 

 

The he one I see making a big wave will be the pescador pilot at only $1800 for a stable pedal driven kayak it's gonna be impossible to beat on a budget. 

As far as the ATAK 120 I will have one in my fleet as soon as it's available. Then I'll sell the 140 and put that towards a radar 135 with the pedals for tournament and big water fishing.

Freelancer here is a quick video of the atak 120. Check his other videos for wilderness products. 

 

 

Clayton you need 18" for a full stroke. You can flutter kick in about 4" if the wind isn't bad.  For shallow water simply push the pedal forward and the fins lay against the hull. You can also pull the system out easy enough. The Hobie drive is proven, but wilderness always has good customer service from what I hear. In case anyone is wondering I'm not on a pro team nor affiliated with Hobie.  I'm just not a fan of dragging one company down to let another shine. To be honest I like the atak 120 but I don't think I could sale my outback to get one.
