Landis Carrier Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Well what I never thought would happen"..happened yesterday. While smallie fishing on the Delaware I flipped my Kayak. Not even sure how or why it happened. Water was just a little rough (not bad at all) I was paddling across, the side dipped down and over I went! Glad to have my PFD on......for all the times I thought rod leashes were a silly idea, I wish I had them!! 4 rods gone forever along with a iPhone. Amazingly I saved 99% of my gear! Still, not a fun day! Quote
Hez Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Sorry to hear that man - I lost 1 rod over the weekend that fell off the boat while motoring to another spot on the lake, I can't imagine losing all of my poles. At least you are safe and was able to save most everything else. Hard lesson learned, I suppose - you are now that much wiser. Have a good day bud. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 11, 2016 Global Moderator Posted July 11, 2016 That sucks man, I know from experience unfortunately. I bought some foam pipe insulation and cut it down to fit between my reel and first guide then zip tie it on. It's a little neater than leashes imo. 1 Quote
Evan K Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Man that's awful. Sorry for the loss. That's why literally *everything* is either tethered or floated on my kayak. Every rod, my tackle back, all of it. Good for you for wearing your PFD. I won't go out in my kayak (except down little creeks) without one. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted July 11, 2016 Super User Posted July 11, 2016 Watched one from our group on Friday tip, and three rods went in the river. All 3 had rod floats and all 3 were recovered immediately. I haven't used them myself, but they're on next tackle shop visit shopping list. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 11, 2016 Super User Posted July 11, 2016 Glad you're OK. Nice that you were able to salvage a good majority of your gear but it's a bummer you lost your rigs. As for thinking that your Kayak would never capsize ~ clearly not a daily occurrence but certainly a possibility. Otherwise why wear the Life Jacket ? A-Jay Quote
EllisJuan Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Wow. That sucks. If you know where you rolled and lost them, call a local scuba club and offer to pay one of them to try to recover them. A buddy just had to do this. Cost him $50 to recover ~$1200 worth of gear. 2 Quote
Super User gim Posted July 11, 2016 Super User Posted July 11, 2016 Isn't it the law that you are required to wear a PFD in a kayak? In Minnesota I think its mandatory. Quote
