Hi guys,

Just had a custom rod built for me, and I was wondering what kind of reel seat this is, the maker selected it for me.

Thanks!

How is it compared to a Fuji TVS?

If you are asking me, I have no idea. I found out what it was by looking up reel seats on google.

Good as in comfortable? IMO it is hard to beat the various Fuji seats.

As in the quality of the brand

I am curious as to why he selected the reel seat and not you? Was is something you were not concerned about? Was their a fitment issue with some parts somewhere? A good deal on this seat?

No experience with that particular seat but as long as it is comfortable for you to use and perhaps offers direct blank access it should be fine.

You won't find many rods built with them whether it be factory or custom. That is not to say they are good or bad as they could just be not as widely known.

Looks like shimano uses seaguide seats on their surf rods.

If it's comfortable, stop worrying about. If it's not, get a different reel seat. People have 30 year old lightning rods with working reel seats. You'll be fine..

Choose your own next time you go custom. That's the point of a custom rod.....unless this was a gift. If it was a free gift, deal with it.

I really like that 'blank through' design.  I've been looking for alternative spinning seats that come in different sizes that feature this.  Unfortunately, like the Fuji seats, it looks like it just has a couple sizes.  Actually, after looking through their website it doesnt look like any have a bunch of different sizes.  I'll have to email them.

In the mean time GBS-Blank-Exposed-Spinning-Reel-Seats_me

will probably still be my spinning seat of choice.

Originally I asked him to use a Fuji TVS, had him order it from mudhole, and it's already built so I can't ask him to switch the reel seat. Not sure how you can mix up a reel seat like that..  Whatever

Yea, sounds like the builders fault. He either used the wrong reel seat on your build on accident, got it switched with another clients reel seat, or he had his notes wrong on what you told him.

Contact him and see what he says. If you have something in writing you sent him noting what you wanted I would mention that too.

In all honesty it looks like a nice reel seat.  How does it feel in your hand?

I dig that seat.  Fish it, you might be surprised.
