jebar01 Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 I have using lipless crankbaits a lot lately and I am wondering...should I have a wide snap-lock on the end of my line or just tie line directly to split ring? Very good search bait. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 10, 2016 Global Moderator Posted July 10, 2016 I tie direct to the split ring. 3 Quote
Last_Cast Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 x2 on the direct tie. One less thing that can go wrong.. Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted July 10, 2016 Super User Posted July 10, 2016 Snap to the split ring for me. 1 Quote
papajoe222 Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Whichever you have the most confidence in. I prefer using a snap tied direct to the bait. Some baits track better, plus it makes changing baits much easier for an old fart like me. I agree with your statement about them being a great search bait and I'll add that they are under utilized. 5 Quote
TxHawgs Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 I use a snap until I find a color they like than after a cpl fish when I have to re tie I will till directly to the split ring on the bait. 1 Quote
CarolinaBoy4Life Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 I use snaps. Never had any issues since I started using them. Seems to allow the bait to impart more action and it is much much easier to change baits if rod selection is limited Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 11, 2016 Super User Posted July 11, 2016 I remove the split rings altogether, and use a duo-loc snap. 3/4 of my baits already have the snaps on them, so I generally retie often. 2 Quote

I agree with this line of thinking. If you're going to use a snap, you should take the split ring off. 2 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 11, 2016 Super User Posted July 11, 2016 They aren't so much a problem with lipless vibe type baits, but billed cranks, especially ones with the eye loop in a recess tend to get the split ring out of alignment, fouling the bait. It doesn't happen as much with a duo-loc. Also, I can tie a palomar to a small snap easier than a whole crankbait. 1 Quote
blckshirt98 Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 I always use Norman Speed Clips with my crankbaits because it's so much faster/easier to swap. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted July 11, 2016 Super User Posted July 11, 2016 As far as it being faster and not having to retie . Its usually time for me to retie anyway when I switch baits , Quote
An Outdoor Guy Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 I also use a snap. I use the KVD 00 or 0 Snap. the really small ones that are rated for 25lbs breaking strength. love it but I don't really know how to use a lipless crank. I heard they were only good for the spring and fall. maybe I should try them out now in summer.... Quote

When the fish start reading what the anglers write about what to eat and when I'll consider following them to the letter. Until then if the bite isn't happening sometimes trying something not in the book might be the ticket. 1 Quote

Now I just learned from you that "seasonal" lures are not really seasonal so I'll start trying things that are out of the ordinary. Love learning something new everyday. Makes me a better angler. 1 Quote
