Banks fishing, tons of algae

Hey all, I am currently only banks fishing and the main lake I have access to is so thick with algae right now that I am having a hard time getting anything in the water without immediately pulling up tons of algae and foliage. I have tried some top water baits at this location but don't seem to get many strikes on them. Does anyone have any tips that could help me get through the algae at all? I have even tried the weightless senko and it just seems like no matter what tactic I use I catch more junk than fish. I am fishing Greenbrier Lake in Robertson County TN and it isn't the biggest lake by any means but it is what I have to work with and I am able to stop there on my way to and from work most days. Any help is appreciated!

You need to learn how to use one of these guys:

you could try a weighted texas rigged senko and that might help you get down in the weeds and not hang up a lot.

Exactly what I've been using aside from color and I think I know how to use it adequately but I just don't get many strikes on it currently. I might just be in a slump, Ill keep at it. Thanks for the input for sure.

if youre in a slump, slow it down! i know when im in a slump i fish way too fast. try the senko untill low light hours and then try a frog. if you dont have big bass in the lake grab a JR. frog and try it out.

Yum Swurm , weightless with a big heavy hook for added casting weight and strong enough to bring in lbs of vegetation . I can even fish it in slippery , slimy moss  . duckweed...  Just take it easy and let it plop on top . I've caught a lot of big bass in the neighborhood lake when noone else could fish it . Sometimes it still catches the slimy stuff but most of the time I can get it through . The Swurm is flat and comes through that stuff well .

This the damndest thing i've ever seen!  Does it ride hook up in the water (or on top of the slime)?

Scum Frog Trophy Series Natural Black/Green.  5/8 oz  Cast it parallel to the bank as much as you can and work it slow with a lot of twitches.  If nothing blows up on it, there isn't anything there.

The hook is not inserted in this photo and it looks like it is hooked sideways . Texas rig it through flat and the hook rides down .

Ah...ok.  I got it in my head that this could be rigged so the hook rode up.  I thought.."How did I not know about this!"

In addition to a frog, you can try a 1/4 or 3/16 oz weighted and pegged t-rigged worm or craw. Tex-pose the hook, then skin hook the hook point back into the bait. When you feel like you are begining to get hung up in weeds, lightly shake the rod to get the bait out of the weed. I find a lot of times, once the bait gets free from the weed, it gets bit.

That was my suggestion ^^^ I was going to say use a 1/2 oz bullet weight and peg it. then learn to stop the cast were you want it so the weight and lue flips in the air and lands sinker first. the bullet sinker penetrates the water like a hot knife through butter. basically a mini punch rig.
