I've been looking to replace my MH/F baitcasting rod I currently use to throw light t-rigs, jigs, etc. On this rod, I have a Lews Tournament Pro spooled up with 12lb Fluorocarbon.

I can cast a 1/8oz bullet weighted t-rig on this rod, but struggle with getting any real distance without a blowup from trying to sling the bait too hard. The rod is rated 3/8 - 1oz.

I've checked several manufacturers rods in the 7' length and can't find a medium power rod that has a lure rating lower than 1/4oz. I'd like the option of throwing light rigs in the range from weightless plastics - 1/4oz jigs and t-rigs.

What rod out there exists that can do this in the baitcasting world?

Weightless which plastics? A 5" Senko is like 3/8 oz. A trick worm and hook is like 3/16 oz maybe?

Some of it comes down to technique. Smooth casting motion and let the brakes do their job. I sometimes have to throw a 1/8 oz swim jig and 4" trailer on a Heavy. It works, though I sort of screw with things by using thinner braid and stupid enthusiast reels. I'm lousy when it comes to "relatable gear". The Tournament Pro should do 1/4 oz easy though.

G. Loomis 802, 842, and 852 are all under 1/4 but they don't make the 842 in the E6X bass lineup which is probably where you'd be looking price-wise. There *may* be an 842 in the walleye lineup.

That 852 would be killer for your purposes though.

I'm selling my G Loomis Mossyback 802. Asking $160 but we could work something out since we are only 3 hours away.

Tfo  garys signature series 7' medium light is rated down to 1/8oz. I have this rod and I love it. They retail for $100 or you can get the tactical series for $150

Most people cover this need with a spinning rod. If you want to get a great casting rod look at these two option.

First look at a Dobyns Sierra 682C (these are new and i have had two Sierra rods in my hands yesterday at my local tackle shop, but not this one)It specs 3/16 to 5/8 and is 6'8" long. That would work nice. This series is lite and feels nice in your hand for sure. These sell for $160

My next choice is an Irod, actually three Irods. I own several Genesis Two Irods and they are fantastic rods.  The first is in the Air Series. Look at an IRA692 C AIR. specs are 1/8 to 3/8 and only weighs 3 oz.  Also check out the IRA683C AIR The specs are 3/16 to 1/2. Both are 6'8" long. Lastly look in the Genesis II series. The one in this series is the IRG 703C. That is a real weapon to have in your arsenal. Very versatile rod. Irod Genesis II rod sell for $150 and Air series rods sell for $250. It all depends on your budget. Anyone of these rods will do the job well.
