Fish4bigfish Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Brand new 25 size president. Took it out and it had a ruff feel so I went home and flushed the bearings and gear lube. I replaced with daiwa precision oil for the bearings and shimano cal grease for the gears. Reassembled and boom SUPER smooth!!!! These are usually great out of the box!?!? Anybody have problems like this recently? Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted July 7, 2016 Super User Posted July 7, 2016 I have never had a problem with a President and between my wife and I we fish a bunch of these ranging from 1 to over 10 years old. I am glad you have it working, but why didn't you just exchanged it for another new one? Quote
Fish4bigfish Posted July 7, 2016 Author Posted July 7, 2016 Lol didn't even think about it lol you definitely called me out! I do my own reel service and upgrades so I can fix it so I did kind of thing I just thought it was weird. I usually end up replacing factory lubes any way because they are far inferior to the products I use. Bearing are all upgraded at my reels first cleaning. Pflueger uses a strange gear grease that is clear like daiwa grease. I prefer cals. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted July 7, 2016 Super User Posted July 7, 2016 Well you are qualified to handle if a bearing gives you trouble in the future so no problem. If sure you have seen a lot of my responses to other posters, If money were no object I would own all G Loomis $400 rods and really expensive reels but I am not interdependently wealthy and my rod locker contains about 12 to 15 rods right now. That means I like a reel like the Presidents that are smooth and last forever are real workhorses for $60. One of mine is on a G loomis IM6 that I have had for over 10 maybe even 15 years. That 40 series reel just works like a champ and I have never done anything but grease it once. I have had all sorts of baitcasters, but again 1 $400 reel is not my choice. I have used Lews, Shimano, BPS, and several others. For the last two years i have been replacing them all with Diawa Tatula and Tatula type Rs and find they are sorta the same thing. There not super flashy but the just cast great and work every time. Quote
Fish4bigfish Posted July 7, 2016 Author Posted July 7, 2016 I agree! And I am also a tatula fan. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted July 7, 2016 Super User Posted July 7, 2016 Nice bass. Looks like he wanted that lure bad! Quote
