Wulf N7 Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 So i'm looking to finally get a dedicated crankbait reel. I've been using a 6.4.1 gear ratiol up until now but if I use it for more than a hour straight it absolutely destroys my wrist. So i'm looking for some recommendations for a new reel. My only requirements is under $130 and it needs to have a 5 gear ratio. Doesn't really matter to me if it's a 5.1.1 or a 5.9.1 etc, just needs to be a 5 gear. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 7, 2016 Global Moderator Posted July 7, 2016 BPS Pro Qualifier is a good option for half that when they're on sale. 3 Quote

Super User fishnkamp Posted July 7, 2016 Super User Posted July 7, 2016 Go get a Diawa Tatula they are smooth and have a great drag. I have been changing all of my reels over to them after I bought two last year and fished them hard. i presently own five and one Diawa Exceller. Go here https://www.amazon.com/Daiwa-TATULA100P-5-4-Medium-Action/dp/B00F5EGFQY/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1467866941&sr=1-1&keywords=Tatula100p This reel retails for $149 almost everywhere else. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 7, 2016 Global Moderator Posted July 7, 2016 I have a Diawa Lexa 4.9:1 I'll sell you really cheap. I bought it new and got about half a dozen trips before it started making an awful noise and grinding to a stop on the cast. It looks perfect on the outside, just does that about every 10 cast or so Quote

I'll keep that reel it mind. It looks pretty nice. I can't tell from the picture, but is the braking system accessed externally or internally? 1 Quote

Onvacation Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 I have a Lews BB1 in a 5.1:1 that I bought for crank baits. Very durable, casts a mile and you can get them in your price range. I personally just seem to like something a bit faster, so mine is sitting on my kitchen counter while my wife waits for me to do something with it. Lol. 1 Quote
NYBasser Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 I have a Curado I Series 200PG, 5.5:1 gear ratio. Reel is brand new in box, and I can do $125 tyd for it. My buddy has a couple and he loves them. Great reel for cranking. 1 Quote

Only selling this low because they go for $140 new on Ebay ..... plus I've already got the 200E5, a gem of a reel. If you PM me an email address/phone number, I can send pics. Quote

I also have a BB1 that I use for Crankbaits and it took a minute for me to get used to, but I've grown to love it. It casts extremely well and is a surprisingly smooth reel for less than $150. Quote

They replaced the regular speed spool reels Quote
dsqui Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 uhh ya they have i have a ss1h lfs and i bought it when st croix debuted the mojos what ever year that was Quote
dsqui Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 it might not be the exact same as what is out now because things change as years go by but all in all its there 100 baitcaster if anyhting they should have gotten better Quote

Airman4754 Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 If you can find a used Revo Winch or a Lews Super Duty 5:1 ratio I'd go with that. I can barely even feel 10XD's on my Super Duty. If you aren't throwing magnum cranks the Orra Winch is a great reel at a great price. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted July 9, 2016 Super User Posted July 9, 2016 The Tatula in the 5.4:1 is the best reel in that price range. The 5.2:1 BPS Pro Qualifier is the best sub 100 dollar reel around. Sometimes you can find a Curado on sale for around $130, and they are worth every penny, better than both the PQ and Tatula. Quote
tje0705 Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 You can get a lews bb1 on eBay new for 125$ with free shipping I've got one in 5.3:1 and love it. Or for 26$ More you can get the bb1 pro for 151$ Quote
