2010 Triton Bass Boat - is this a good deal?

Guy is selling a used 2010 Triton 18 foot bass boat. Has a 90 horsepower Mercury motor (which seems like it was the lowest powered motor it could come with) and why it's probably lower priced. Boat appears to be in really good shape. Comes with a 80lbs. Minn Kota Maxxum foot driven TM in front and a small Minn Kota engine mount TM on the outboard that is mounted on the outboard fins, and Hummingbird smaller fish locater. Has 100 hours on it from him since he's owned it for 3 years. He's asking around $13,000 for it. If that's expensive, what's a good price for this boat?

 

Also, a friend said Triton was a lower class boat. I thought Triton was a higher end boat. Is he right?

The lakes I fish are small to medium size usually.

That's going to be way under powered for a boat that size. If you fish mostly small lakes it won't be an issue though. 

Not sure what you mean by a Minn Kota TM on the outboard? He has a TM on the front and back of a bass boat??

You can look up boat values on NADA. 

If it was me, I'd be disappointed after the first month of using a severely under powered boat. I wouldn't give over 10k for it personally, but honestly I wouldn't have given it a second look after seeing it had a 90 hp.

Triton makes all ranges of boats and they're all pretty nice.

That's a good price for the HULL. You could offer $10k, then swap the motor for a new(er) 150hp. But beware of deals that seem "too good". This smells a little fishy (I love puns).

Is this fiberglass or a Triton VT 17 which is a 17'10' aluminum bass boat.  They regularly came with 75's. If it is the fiberglass TR176 it is way underpowered. Move on and find another boat.  Triton hs always made a great boat.

Hull looks great. I would pass. 90hp Motor on an 18 ft glass boat is ridiculously under powered. I would regret not going larger every second despite how well the hull shape is. Your friend is wrong. Triton's are great boats.

Tritons are very nice boats. Have a mechanic go over the motor, if checks out ok, maybe give him a fair offer. 12500 asking, he might go down another thousand...

It might be considered underpowered by professionals and folks on big lakes, but 90hp isn't a tiny motor by any mean, and if you're only fishing small or med lakes, it might be enough for you.

That boat should have minimum a 135 preferably a 150. You will be under powered and it will not take long for you to wish for more. Depending on where you live, there are tons of  good used boats that are not selling fast.  Just look BoatTrader and craigslist.  Forget it and move on. what is your budget.  Would this be too much for you?  http://tulsa.craigslist.org/boa/5633189178.html  This is a nice fully powered boat with a nice list of options. an 18'8" boat with a 159 Merc and a list of options for an asking price of $17775. Trust me in this economy $16,000 should take it away.  If that is too high for your budget look at a big aluminum like this one http://stillwater.craigslist.org/bod/5669513760.html  These of course are not real near you but I only show what you can find. If they are reasonably close I would check into them

I agree it may not do 70+ mph might not do 50 either but seriously how fast do you need to get to where your going to have a relaxing day fishing. Sure if your tournament fishing and your racing to beat others to a spot OK. For some reason I suspect the OP isn't competitive bass fishing just yet. 

I'd much rather have a nice boat that had a gently used transom from a small motor than a 6 yr old ragged out 200hp that has been thrashing on my transom. There are positives to a smaller motor when buying used.

You can always step up the motor but 90 is plenty to fish. Getting out on the water is a step in the right direction. 

All that being said don't over pay. Boats are everywhere. Shopping and knowledge of what your looking at are hard to beat.

Thanks guys. Good info. It sold. I'll keep looking. Not in a rush so that helps. Never a good idea to make any big purchase in a rush.
