Deciding my new reel

Hi everyone! Any of you who tried the daiwa tatula type-R and the new curado from shimano? I cant decide wich one to buy

It's gonna come down to whether you like the wing, and what braking system you prefer.  I like Daiwa brakes for hard casting, but I also like the simplicity of the Curado. You won't go wrong either way.

OP, I'm guessing you don't have either.....you won't go wrong with either, but prepared to make a long-term commitment after you buy one or the other....reading these forums, it appears to be a very unique individual who is in both camps

That doesn't quite bear out as you stray further from your keyboard.  Most guys have a mix on their boats.  They have models they liked, didn't like, but they aren't as brand loyal as the apparent Chevy vs. Ford battles you see on forums, lol.

I'm one of the rare ones. I have two Tatula Type R reels and one Curado. It would be very difficult for me to say which I like better. They're both fantastic reels and well worth the price. If I absolutely had to pick I would probably say I like the Curado a tiny bit better. I just like the shape and the way it feels in the hand. But again, that's a tiny bit.

You honestly can't go wrong with either. Tip: check ebay thoroughly before purchasing either from anywhere else. It's weird, but there are a lot of stores that will sell an item there for a huge discount as opposed to their normal store. For example, I got my first Tatula for $120, MSRP is $200.

I really am loving my shimano reels lately. I know a lot of people fall into almost fanboyism so I am trying to avoid this post sounding like that. Between my dad and myself, I have seen 3-4 different tatulas see extended use in my boat. 2 of them are still going strong and they do have a great breaking system. However the other 2 seem to require a lot more maintenance than any other reels I have used. They quickly start feeling gritty and are very noisy on the retrieve. So what I will say is that the Tatulas that are still working are really great reels, but the other ones cause me to be a bit iffy on them.

Funny you would bring this up! I have had the same experience. All my reels are treated extremely well and stored indoors. I have a tatula that just won't go smooth. The rest are great!

I have 2 Tatulas, one regular, the other a Type R - I love them both, but the Type R is slightly better than my normal run Tatula.

I have not thrown baits on any modern Shimano Reels so can't compare it to those, but have owned plenty of Okumas, Quantums, Lews, Pfluegers and other Daiwas. The Tatula Type R is my preferred reel over all of them. It casts a country mile, it works flawlessly, and unlike some reels (my Quantums and Pfluegers and Daiwa Vientos), I don't need to constantly order replacement parts to repair them. I'm pretty tough on my reels I guess... Long story short, my next few reels with be Tatula Type Rs, two years of flawless performance so far.

I really cant decide tho i feel inclined to shimano but i can only get it at extremely good price in a 7.2 ratio and i allready have a reel with that ratio, thats why i was also thinking about the type-R, cuz i can find it with 6.3 and also in a very good price

I've been fishing quantums forever... Never had a problem with them... Although the Daiwa tatula looks like an awesome reel..

Get both. You'll find a use for each. I have both models and like them equally. Both great casters. Smooth and powerful on the retrieve.

Depends what you're wanting to use it for, the 6.3 would be great for moving baits and crankbaits, and the 7.2 will be great for jigs and plastics, baits where you're using the rod to create the action and taking in slack with the reel.

i prefer a shimano curado over anything because that's what works for me I have lews, Abu garcias and I want to try a Diawa tatula ct I have reels that I hate and reels that I like, but I prefer the currado.

I have run Shimanos ( the older G model ) and they work. I currently have a Shimano Chronarch 200E7 and am not that impressed. Between last year and this spring I have sold off and replaced 6 reels with Diawa Tatulas and Tatula Typr R's and one Diawa Exceller( budget for reels ran out).  All of these have had a lot of use on them especially the ones last year.  Get the Tatula R it will perform and last very well. As for the guys with the Tats that have some grinding or rough feel go get them professionally check and cleaned that is very unusual.  I have a friend that fishes these reels at least 4 times a week ( I am not exaggerating) and he is as tough on gear as anyone can be and they have held up for him.  Go check his website at baybass.com and read some of his reports. He not only bass fishes with them, but on the Potomac he catches huge snakeheads and rockfish.  By next spring all of my reels will be changed over to Diawas.  Also do not pay retail go to Amazon I got my Type R's for $139 shipped. The deals look a little better now.
