Travis Gasper Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Anybody ever tried a YUM Warning Shot with a ZMAN ShroomZ jig for the Ned Rig? I have TRDs on order but will be out fishing already when they come in the mail. Figured a Warning Shot might work decent for now. Any thoughts or prior experience with this combo? Quote
Molay1292 Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Many small plastic baits on a mushroom head work well as a substitute for the Ned Rig. Those that tend to have a little more buoyancy to them seem to perform better for me. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 3, 2016 Global Moderator Posted July 3, 2016 I actually just posted about this last week. They make a good Ned rig bait. Cut the head section off so the jighead sits flush. They have a very nice gliding action on the fall. 1 Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted July 4, 2016 Super User Posted July 4, 2016 Think of Ned rigging as a school of thought or bait presentation philosophy, not so much X bait and Y hook = Ned. The concepts that apply to the Ned are what make it successful. TRDs and nice mushroom heads certainly help but they are not what defines the practice. Play around! Get a bunch of different jig heads, weights, colors and different small plastics to go on them. The only true constant will be a line eye on the side so the jighead can stand up. Some places and times a hellgie will be the best, others want a TRD or speed craw. I run TONS of Neds from 1/16oz cocho cocho w/ a crusteaz (TINY!), 1/8oz kietech heads and huddle bugs (much larger but same concept) 3/32oz mono guards and TRDs (middle ground)... The combinations are literally infinite. The only constant is the method of rigging and the presentation philosophy behind it. So have fun! Don't feel like you aren't "doing it right" etc. It's all about experimentation and having fun figuring out what works for you and on your waters. 1 Quote
Travis Gasper Posted July 11, 2016 Author Posted July 11, 2016 Yesterday I decided to really work the Ned Rig and see what I could do. I had my 1/16 oz ShroomZ with a black/blue flake TRD. I ended up with 30 largemouth caught! Such a fun way to fish. I will be trying it with the YUM Warning Shot as well in the future. 1 Quote
Travis Gasper Posted July 12, 2016 Author Posted July 12, 2016 My God! Definitely gotta try that on my next Ned Rig outing. I have a feeling this technique is gonna blow up within the next year or two. 1 Quote

If you're fishing smallmouth, and you don't have some Ned rig supplies on board, you're missing out. 1 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted July 13, 2016 Super User Posted July 13, 2016 I have some, but haven't given it much time. Will do today. Quote

We fondly call the rig "Midwest Finesse" Quote
Travis Gasper Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 I live here in WI and have never heard of it before. But then again not many people I know around here wacky rig, and up until this year that's been my main technique for bass. Trying to expand my arsenal now with frogs, spinners, and the Ned Rig.
