buzzfrog Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 So I bought a curado last year in January. So guess a year and a half. The older ones. Bought on sale at dicks. Outside of in yard, today was first fishing. 3rd cast the side plate comes off to me clicking spoil release. I fix, now every cast I make the side plate comes off.. Idk why or how. Anyone heard of this, I don't know much in mechanics of inside. So scared to take apart. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 2, 2016 Super User Posted July 2, 2016 Take it back to Dick's for repair or replacement. There may be nothing wrong with the reel and they will show you what you are doing wrong. Quote
buzzfrog Posted July 2, 2016 Author Posted July 2, 2016 I called. No receipt or box. They said they can't do anything. I figured y'all would know. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted July 2, 2016 Super User Posted July 2, 2016 If that is a green colored one it is most likely a G model. Look at this picture. If it looks like this than put the side plate on and flip up the little handle where it says "Shimano. Turn until it stops and that should lock the side plate on. The side plate is removable in order to adjust the breaking system. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted July 2, 2016 Super User Posted July 2, 2016 If it is a G or E they have a side plate with a latch to prevent the side plate from falling off. To disengage the side plate or lock it back in place is kind of like putting a key into a cars ignition. So it sounds like the side plate is off and hanging lose by the hinge. You just need to line the side plate up with the frame and turn it to lock it in place. Unless a part is broken somewhere in the frame or side plate which is not allowing to fasten down, it should be easy to put back together. There are videos on YouTube that may help. Quote
buzzfrog Posted July 2, 2016 Author Posted July 2, 2016 It is G,. my other curados stay locked, I am assuming it is broke. If it is broke, is it fixable going on the information I gave. Sorry to sound clueless, I've just never seen this from any reel. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted July 2, 2016 Super User Posted July 2, 2016 You will need to send it to a reel repair center.. Check with your nearest tackle shop to find one that you will not have to mail of too. Often they have a local guy. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted July 2, 2016 Super User Posted July 2, 2016 If you are unable to lock the side plate by turning the pop up tab in the locking direction, I'm going to assume the inner locking mechanism on the side plate is broke. If you take the side plate off, you can see the part of the lock that is either missing or broke. Find it on your schematic and order the part. It's a pretty simple disassembly and install if you take your time. I've taken a couple off to clean sand out of them. You'll be fine. Just go slow. Quote
buzzfrog Posted July 2, 2016 Author Posted July 2, 2016 Thanks guys. I will inspect it when I get home Quote
