Proud Day of Fishing

The fish were not biting today and I couldn't figure out what they wanted. So as I sat on my kayak I got to thinking..maybe they are in their summer pattern and have gone deep. Deep in my lake is MAYBE 12 ft. The bottom is very grassy so I normally try to stay away from throwing things down there. Almost never throw jigs in lakes around here (eastern VA). So using my fish finder I began paddling around looking for any channels or just change in depth. I decided to try a technique everyone speaks about but I've never had any luck or really tried...the famous texas rigged worm. Threw on a junebug worm on there (my go to, but usually i wacky rig it) with a small bullet weight...The bite was on after that. Ended the day with 4 bass and 3 large pickerel one being 19", and many other pecks. Looking forward to trying this more tomorrow, any tips would be appreciated!!

Now that's using your most valuable tool. Glad to hear you had success trying something new, somewhere new.  What's next?

Way to stick with it.  As crazy as it may sound, the great days are great but the tough days drive me.  Figuring  out something that works on a slow day is way better than just boating fish after fish.  I don't mean trying everything in the takle box till something works (if that actually works).  I mean thinking logically and grabbing something from the box that fits that situation.  When it works out in your favor that is the best!

I agree. Nothing like successfully figuring get them out. There are so many different ways to attack a piece of water. I try my best to assess a pond or even a specific sections. When that fails I will stop and think about similar situations I read about on here and suggestions or others successes and try them out. I also had a little success story today. I've tried lipless cranks off and on with little success in the past. I fished a small pond today with grass on the bottom. This topic was discussed on here and a few suggested lipless cranks. Not having success I'm hesitant, but decided to try. It was windy so it pushed me even more. I was able to cover water quickly and was hammering bass with a red craw rat l trap. Nothing big, but caught a lot of them. Biggest 2lbs. It was awesome. No idea why this bait all of a sudden worked this time. Now another weapon at my disposal on those slow days all due to help and suggestions from these kind of threads. People helping people.  Got to love it. Congrats on your success OP.
